“Very User-Friendly Unit -- Extremely Warm and Helpful Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2006

We, as two seniors from Massachusetts, had a delightful time! We selected the mid-October trip to view the lovely foliage -- we weren't disappointed at all. Our unit was so very nice;--two bedrooms (one on each of two levels), a large living room/dining room, kitchen and two baths (one on each of the two levels). The upstairs bathroom had a large water jetted tub, under a sky-iit roof -- a very large bathroom! The unit was extremely well equipped (pots, pans, linens, pillows, two T.V.'s, microwave, ice maker in refrig., carpet sweeper, iron, ironing board, paper towels, extra tolilet tissue, facial tissue, dishes, glasses, coffee maker, dishwasher, etc., etc. etc. (even had a bathroom plunger :). And, our unit had been totally renovated! New furniture, new carpeting, new kitchen cabinets and appliances, new luxury draw-drapes. We arrived there in cold weather and the heating system was noiseless and efficient. In other words, it was really, really nice! We were there to see the foliage, and do some sightseeing -- so it was a perfect "home base" for us to roam around the area. Downtown Hawley was so quaint -- happened to have been there for their "Hoedown" weekend. Went to a country auction in Honesdale -- lots of fun on a rainy day. Explored the Delaware Water Gap -- very educational. Found some really nice restaurants (Erhardt's in particular). We came home with pleasant memories, having experienced a very satisfying and positive mini-vacation.

We booked our stay through our timeshare company RCI the picture of the resort was not how the resort looked that we stayed in. There are many different areas to the Tanglwood Resort - the one we stayed at was very old and run down. We were not aware that it would take us about 15 minutes from the main building to get to our unit. It was difficult at first to find the Yatch Club road that would take us down to another road to get to our unit. I would suggest a larger sign that would say Tanglwood Resort and have the staff mention the strip mall (that has a deli and not much else) which is located on the left hand side of a sharp corner, put your direction light on, at the top of the hill you need to turn left. (they mentioned a boat rental on the right hand side-- there are a few boat rental places)
The parking was not the greatest, it seemed there were not enough spots for the units. Most of the time we had to park close to the road because there was no room in the gravel parking lot. (maybe there should be designated numbered parking spots.) We had to walk a long distance to get to our unit. Very disappointing.
The units need a lot of work. These units were not the cleanest.Appearance at first is neat and tidy. Then we noticed there were cobwebs on the walls and ceilings, carpets, tiles and funiture are old and need repair. The walls were patchy, all walls needed to be painted, the deck floor outside the upstairs bedroom is in need of repair. The front of the unit facing a lake was a untidy (twigs all over the place). The patio furniture is in need updating or at least some paint.
We were told that some units were being gutted and redone ... however we never saw any.
To use the in-door pool, you had to find your way over to the golf course, we did not venture over there. The entertainment room was at the main building which was about 15 mins away.
There was no meet and greet, no suggestions of things you might want to take in while there. Very dissappointing. We would not recommend this resort to anyone.

We booked our stay through our timeshare company RCI the picture of the resort was not how the resort looked it was old and rundown .The rooms were said to be modern with jacuzzi our room did not include a jacuzzi .the decor was from the early 1970's ,The onsight restuarant was closed for renovations there was no onsight indoor swimming pool. The outdoor pool had no lifeguard available at all their recreation room was laughable it contained a few things but nothing to really entertain a family .The roads on the facility were in extreme disrepair ,Our room did not even come with an Iron or an ironing board, unless your coming to attend a local event this resort sucks I would never recomend anyone to stay here I would say find a Holiday Inn and you be more pleased .Also they say they have a health club but they don't tell you that it is located off site the .

The resort is somewhat dated on the outside, but renovations have been made on the inside. The resort is good for families with the lake and outdoor activities, but not highly recommended for honeymooners. The room had some mold/mildew issues, but the staff was very quick to clean it. In general, the staff was very accommodating. Depending on the activities you like, you may have to travel (i.e. hiking, biking, canoeing, rafting, and site-seeing) to enjoy them.

Our family stayed at Tanglwood in the Woodmont area. It is lakefront and has beautiful surroundings and sunsets. It is close to Scranton, PA. Also many local activities are available and onsight doings for the children. Family friendly.

Review of Tanglwood Resort in the Poconos

Bare Bones But Not Bad!

Our on-line reservation agent had told us that we would be next to the main building with all the amenities. We were actually about a ¼ mile hike away from the main lodge. The ad for Tanglewood lists access to the lake as an amenity. Technically this is true because the resort owns a small marina where boats can be docked. However, there is no swimming allowed in the lake at the resort’s access! We did find out that there was a public beach that one could drive to but it cost $3.00 per person, and it did not seem very appealing.

The condo was as promised: one bedroom, full kitchen, living room and full bath. The bed did not have any box springs. The mattress was on a platform. It felt like one was sleeping on the floor. The air conditioning unit in the bedroom had only one operational speed- HIGH. This was very LOUD and the room was FREEZING most of the time.

We received an inventory sheet at registration and were told to complete this sheet and return it to the office as soon as possible. The inventory sheet required the resident to count the silverware, dishes, pots and pans, glasses, sheets and towels among other items in the condo. It was definitely a ridiculous task.

After reading previous on-line reviews of Tanglwood, we were concerned about finding the interior of the condo a dirty mess. We were relived to find the condo clean and neat.

The first floor condo was actually on the basement level. There were several flights of stairs that connected with the parking level for cars. The porch was at ground level and the ceiling was not a solid piece so that the residents on the upper floor were visible while one sat on the lower level.

The restaurant was closed. The indoor pool and other amenities listed could only be accessed by driving to a local country club 7 miles away. The country club has very specific rules for dress and required reservations. We did not find the time to arrange a visit to the country club.

The outdoor pool was nice but somewhat small and shallow with no lifeguard or diving. There was a ½ hour adult swim once every afternoon. The beginning of the adult swim was announced much to the chagrin of many residents with families. No one announced the end of the ½ hour period so that was left up to the adults who were enjoying the adult swim. It was difficult to impossible to swim laps at times other than the adult swim.

We received a phone call in our condo from VRI (Vacation Resorts International) to attend a promotional meeting to hear about future plans for Tanglwood Resort. This property has timeshares. Beware of salesmen stealing your vacation time.

We stayed there this past weekend and all i can say is that is was one of the nicest places i have ever been. Our condo was clean and well kept. Despite the numerous bugs outside, there wasn't a bug problem inside. There is nothing more i can say. Whatever gripes people have had with this place it is obvious to me that they do not exist now.
