“Gabriella's is Back, and it's Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

The fire shut the place down for a while, but the return is worth the wait. Renovations are well done, the front-area bar is nice, and the food is as good as ever. The building is not large, so space is still an issue for crowded evenings. Make a reservation! Seems like the restaurant is even more popular than before.

The menu is varied. We have not sampled any dishes that we did not like. Have a glass of Montepulciano, order some Italian food and enjoy the ambiance. You'll be glad you visited.

“Love this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

For the second year in a row, we held a business dinner here. Our business dinners are not small. Each year we bring in associates from around the U.S. for a 3-day seminar and we search for suitable restaurants for our evening dinners. Ironically, this is not easy in Harrisburg because most restaurants cannot handle the size of our group (45-55). I had been to Gabriella on a few occasions with friends, so I first approached Pietro (the owner) in 2012 about hosting our event dinner on a Tuesday evening. He closed the restaurant for our private party and it was an overwhelming success. We vowed to return (huge hit with everyone, so an easy choice), but a devastating fire in the kitchen in the Fall of 2012 and permit and construction delays almost derailed our plans this year. Everything was completed about 10 days prior to our company dinner and we had the (newly refurbished!) place to ourselves once again on a Tuesday evening, the day before its grand reopening.

I could not ask for better treatment. John, one of the wait staff, remembered the wine I favored and had it poured for me immediately when I arrived to help set up for all our friends. With the new bar in the front and additional space to mill around, the restaurant has carved space out of an area where there was literally none before. This is not a large restaurant. Our group was a little larger this time around and we should have expanded into the partially sectioned side room but we did not, so it was a little tighter for us than it needed to be and we'll rearrange differently next year. We stayed with the same menu we had last year -- passed appetizers (crab cakes, clams casino, bruschetta) and table appetizers (sauteed portobello mushrooms, grilled homemade sausage in a marinara sauce, and sauteed asparagus). The wait staff came around to take the entree orders from a limited menu we had put together (Piatto di Mare, Shrimp Francese, Manicotti, Eggplant Contadina, Chicken Oscar or Veal Marsala). The Piatto di Mare is my favorite, hands down. Service was outstanding. While we were the only patrons there, there were still 54 of us so between drinks and food, the wait staff was busy, but as attentive as the staff was, they were not hovering and never rushed us. We were there four hours and had a great time laughing with our friends.

This has clearly become a company "tradition" dinner during this yearly event and my hope is that our group doesn't get so large that we outgrow this small establishment because it's clearly a crowd favorite. Of all the restaurants we've used in the past several years for these dinners, Gabriella stands in the #1 spot with our group, no question about it. I do suggest you make dinner reservations, though. This used to be a well kept secret but not anymore. Word has gotten around about this small restaurant and despite a several months-long closure while it was rebuilt, it's going to be more popular than ever.

My thanks to Pietro and his incredible group for another fabulous dinner!

“Unexpected surprise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

This is one of the best values I have stumbled across in a very long time. If you like Italian first class in a tiny suburb of Harrisburg, You'd be hard-pressed to do better than just stopping by Gabriellas. Inauspicious from the outside, the decorating and interior was exquisite.
My wife and I each ordered the house Cabernet, an entrée of penne pasta with vodka pink sauce, and a side of the most incredible Italian sausage with tomatoes peppers and onions. Did a house salad, and tasty garlic bread, and we had a meal fit for a king.
Though we don't live in the area, we will definitely go out of our way on our next journey through this city to reconnect.
