“Outstanding hidden gem East of Harrisburg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

I read some of other Tripadvisor reviews of the Official Barbecue and decided to stop in for dinner. This place is truly a hidden gem with some of the best food in its class that I've ever eaten. It's off the beaten path, and not very fancy, but it's definitely worth the trip. The pulled pork sandwich is overflowing with tender, perfectly-seasoned meat, and the side order of french fries could feed two hungry people. On a second visit, I tried the Angus burger, which was among the best hamburgers that I've ever eaten. Everything is prepared on site and is extremely fresh.

This would be the perfect restaurant to take a family or a group of friends for a casual night out. The dining room is bright and clean, and there are even some picnic tables out front for when the weather gets warmer in a few months. I hope to return many times as I work my way through the menu.

“Great food, slow preperation, confused service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

Being that we have extended family that live in the area that we visit weekly, this place has been visited several times by my family. The overall experience is frustrating, if I had to explain it in one word.

Lets start by saying that the food is VERY good. The BBQ is well worth the money you pay for it, and everything has been consitently good every time we've ordered in or picked it up for takeout.

The problems come with the prep time and confusion on behalf of those that work the 'front end' of the location. Over half the times we've ordered for pickup, we have arrived at the determined time for our food to be prepared (between 20-35 minutes on quotes) only to wait another 10 or more minutes to receive our order. The troubles at the front end mean we've seen people leave the restraunt and return while we are still waiting, coming back with orders that weren't theirs to begin with or with multiple items missing from orders.

If these slight issues would be resolved, this location would easily score a 4...perhaps even a 5!

“Best BBQ around”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

We've had the pulled pork, brisket and pulled smoked turkey. All fantastic. We haven't tried the ribs yet, but they are next on our list. Also, make sure you try the corn bread muffins!
Oh, and the fries are awesome! They don't skimp on the food! They have plenty of tables, but the place can fill up for dinner. The table and chairs are very nice, no plastic chairs here.
The last visit was take out, and the portion sizes were the same as eating in the restaurant.

“Best bbq around.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013 via mobile

Just got back from another outstanding meal at Official. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent. Fries were perfectly seasoned, and the corn muffin with honey butter was perfect.

The best part is that this is the norm at Official. The food is consistantly excellent. The dining area is clean and comfortable. There is plenty if parking. It's just a wonderful place for a meal, and time with friends and family.

We will be going back very soon.

“Great food, excellent for families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

We travel to this part of PA a few times a year, came into the area to visit Hershey park, this place was not far from our hotel. We read some of the reviews, and thought it sounded delicious. I have to disagree with the most recent review, saying this place is "not a top harrisburg restaurant." What a bold statement! When you are have a family, and are traveling with kids, places like Char's & Fresco just aren't practical. When we travel sans children, we love do like the occasional fine dining, but this place captures the heart of tripadvisor.

The staff was very friendly. We had a cheeseburger, pork bbq, brisket and turkey bbq sandwiches, plus a bunch of sides between the 5 of us. Everything was fantastic (OMG those fries!!), even the fussiest of our 3 children wanted more to go!

The restaurant is simple and clean, the owner/chef came out to talk to us, and seemed genuinely interested in our feedback. We will definitely be going back every time we visit the area!
