“Great coverage of both sides of the Civil War...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

I tend to get museumed out quickly due to so much reading but this museum held my interest. Still lots of reading but they have done an excellent job of portraying both sides of the war. The displays of the uniforms, weapons, camps were all excellent. What really got to me was the display of working on a wounded soldier and it made you realize how far we have come in the medical field and why so many soldiers died of infection or disease. It's heartbreaking knowing how many gave their lives and it makes you realize you ended up in either the Confederate or Union side pretty much on where you lived. They have a computer or data base that you can look up people from the Civil war. I was disappointed that I was not able to find information on my great and great great grandfather that joined the Confederate side and they were living in Florida at the time of the war. Put this museum on your list of things to do while you are in this area.

“Met every expectation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

This is an excellent museum, with artifacts from both North and South. Video screens throughout give more details about major campaigns. One can even arrange to have a brick placed in their "Walk of Honor" in memory of an ancestor who served. They are arranged by state and very easy to locate once they have been placed. They also send you a certificate stating same has been done. The location is also lovely. Definitely worth the trip!

“Beautiful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

Stopped here as my son and I were on our way to NY and found this as a great place to spend a few hours. The facility looks brand new and the view is great. It's a great place to learn a lot about the Civil War without bias (which I've seen in some museums in the south). For Harrisburg its probably the best attraction available if you enjoy history.

“A Must-See for History Buffs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

This museum houses excellent informative exhibits on Civil War history, and was the highlight of our trip to the Hershey/Lancaster/Harrisburg area. The museum is set up high on a hill overlooking Harrisburg. One of the things we liked the best was the videos that played in various parts of the exhibit halls, each one a reenactment from different people's perspectives. Extremely moving and makes you feel like you were part of history. Also very clever were the battle maps which showed the movement and progress of various important battles during the war.

“Stunning displays and great collection of artifacts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

There is so much to see and take in during a visit to the National Civil War Museum that visitors can easily spend half a day or more immersing themselves in the history of this conflict.

From what I could see, nothing seems to have been left out of the displays, dioramas and exhibits. In fact, the amount of information and detail can be quite overwhelming for the casual visitor, while serious Civil War enthusiasts should come away from the museum quite sated by the amount of history on display.

To compliment the many static displays, there are numerous audio-visual presentations that add to the overall museum experience and all are of high quality and well presented.

Highly recommended.
