“Great concert venue for singer-songwriters”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2012

My husband and I found this place, when a lessor-known performer was making an appearance here. What a great setting for a concert! The stage is small and the setting is intimate, making for a great performance that is up close and personal.

The bookstore itself is worth a visit, as the selection of used books is extensive! The coffee was very good - fresh and hot. The dessert selection was also very good and it was hard to choose between the pumpkin muffin and cheesecake brownie. Both were delicious. :)

“A very special selection of books in good condition...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2012

Midtown Scholar is not the kind of place one would call a "used book store", which often conjures up images of dusty stacks of unwanted paperbacks; nor is it the kind of place one would call an "antiquarian bookseller", although the books are in great condition and appear to have been carefully selected. It lies somewhere in between the two -- much better organized and rewarding than the former, and much more affordable than the latter! Plus, it has a small coffee / tea counter inside, which makes it perfect for whiling away a few hours in a leisurely browse. Keep in mind that Midtown Scholar will not have each and every book you're looking for, and that they have only "famous authors" in their literature section -- no real "fiction" section. While there are newer books present, you won't find "new releases" or "bestsellers" screaming at you when you walk in the door. I particularly enjoyed the architecture section, the local history section, and the aisle of American regional history. If you're a book lover, you will have no trouble spending a few bucks -- or a few hundred bucks!
