“Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2011

We've been coming to the area for many years going to Penn National Races which is now Hollywood Casino. We normally stay nearer the track in Grantville but as my review of the Hampton there states the quality of the lodging in the area has been slipping. We decided to go a bit further down I-81 and ended up at the Springhill Suites. This property is the Taj Mahal compared to any Grantville hotel. It's fairly new, very clean and extremely modern. I had never seen similar door locks or shower jets and we stay in many hotels. The reading lights attached to the headboard were great. The staff were all polite and helpful.
Previous reviewers commented on the bathroom setup but it sems pretty standard Springhill and I believe well thought out. Our room was away from I-81 and we heard no traffic noise.
If I had to pull out the fine tooth comb and find something negative it would be that the HVAC system was a bit loud. Nothing that would keep you from sleeping but a bit loud.
Will definitely return.

Room Tip: Away from I-81

I stayed at this hotel on a Monday night in March for business. It was very close to the PA Farm Complex. The staff in this hotel was very friendly, the lobby is beautiful and very inviting.

The breakfast was decent, there were scrambled eggs and turkey sausage. Personally I did not enjoy the eggs or sausage, both did not taste very good. However, they do have a selection of fresh fruit, yogurt, milk, coffee, danishes, bagels, and a few other items.

The rooms in the hotel are great. Big office and seating area, very comfortable beds. There are two separate bathrooms, one with just the toilet and sink with a door, and then on the other side of the hotel room is another bathroom with the bigger sink and shower/tub. There is a microwave, coffee maker and refridgerator in the room.

I will definitely stay here again if I am in the area. Highly recommended.

A very nice, super modern hotel, good for business travel, but I would think twice about bringing the family. The wierdest bathroom arrangement I ever had in a hotel....I can see how people would really have problems with this if they were not VERY comfortable with each other's bathroom needs. Imagine 3 feet in front of the bed a small room with toilet that only has a sliding, and not locking, frosted glass door. The door is not a pocket door, either....it's a sliding "barn type" door that does not come close to sealing on any edge, and sound goes right around it. Wierd. And now imagine another, seperate, room at the other foot of the bed with a shower in it, same type of door. Wierd again. Very nouveau, kinda japanese, but really wierd. I have no idea how many people would deal with it. Bed was great, very modern decor, brand new building, nice TV, decent breakfast, totally safe area, close to Harrisburg and only 10 or 11 miles to the Hollywood Casino, nice pool, good workout room.....overall, very good. The lobby is a bit unusual, somewhat harem-like, but not objectionable. Was disappointed that the lounge was supposed to be open until 11pm, but we came back to the hotel at 10:30 on a saturday night, and the woman working the lounge decided to close and leave (hot date?) before that....we had to pass on the nightcap. Oh, well...

I love the hotel and it's location for us as a break in a 2 day trip home to Vermont BUT, it is very noisy. The I-81 issue has been covered elsewhere here and we asked for a room away from I-81 and that was fine BUT, the heating system seems to have a mind of it's own (and the staff knows this!). There is no way to shut the fan off: it comes on every 15-30 minutes for about a minute, whether the heat or fan or anything is on or off!! I'm not sure why, it just does. It is not conducive to a good night's sleep (I don't even hear well and it woke me up many, many times). Know this or stay elsewhere and NOTE TO OWNERS: Why not fix it or get a new system. It's a nightmare. We found the staff, Stephanie especially, great. Breakfast is like any other motel, palatable with cereal and eggs that have likely never seen a chicken. We have only stayed in the winter and the staff's concept of a snow shovel is that big yellow thing up in the sky. They may make swipe with a plow in the main lanes, but all other areas--behind, between and in front of cars--is completely ignored and it's a mess and dangerous to boot.

We spent the night on 2/12/2011. Wanted something close to Hollywood casino's and shopping but not the price of Hershey. Only about 10 minute drive away. The rooms are large and very modern cathederal ceilings, seperate shower and bathrooms, microwave, small fridge, and a flat screen. Beds are always comfy at The Marriott. Very close to everything. I didn't hear the highway noise that everyone complains about.Breakfast looked ok but we chose to eat out. Had no problems with the front desk. They let us check-in before 3:00.

This hotel was just a stop on a long drive, but we really loved it. The room layout was roomy for our family. The layout was new and fresh. It really is a beautiful hotel.

We stayed at the SpringHill suites by Marriott last week-end with our girls ice hockey team. The hotel had been open only 1 year and everything about it was amazing. The decor was ultra modern with blues and oranges, the rooms had wood moldings around the doors and windows. The beds were very comfortable - even the dreaded sofa bed.
