If you're looking for a peaceful spa experience, keep looking. The setting is beautiful, but the spa, hotel and restaurants fall way short of the scenery. Rooms are OK, but the staff is clueless, the spa services mediocre at best and the restaurant is a joke.
We've been to over 2 dozen destation spas, and this one falls well short of even average. The treatments lacked finess, and the staff seemed to be going through the motions. And we had moret than 10 different treatments from a variety of staffers over a long weekend.
The hotel staff is untrained and incompetent, though very personable. Promised Continental breakfasts seemed to not appear, housekeeping service was erratic at best and the front office staff is in another world.
The restaurant across the road at the Golf Course is a shambles. We went for lunch one day, and they were out of almost everything. They said "we just had a big party and they cleaned us out". We made the mistake of giving them a try for dinner, at which they hold themselves out to be a top notch steak house. The only thing top notch was the price. The soup arrived luke warm, the steak burned to shoeleather and inedible (they did remove the charge for that one). The staff is completely untrained and iffecient, but again, very pleasant. . The wine list is extensive and pricey, but we had to use cheescloth from the kitchen to filter sediment because they didn't have, or know what a decanter is.
Finally, if you find yourself there the same time as one of their MANY group functions like weddings or family reumions, put aside ANY notion of a quiet, peaceful spa experience. You'll be subject to the anti-spa experinece, probably not what you're looking for, so save the trouble and look elsewhere.
