“Great Place and Close to Hershey Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

I booked this hotel after researching hotel prices in the area and reading previous reviews on Tripadvisor that it had been recently rennovated and was a nice, clean place to stay which was close to Hershey Park. We were very pleased with our stay at this Holiday Inn Express. Our room was very clean upon arrival and the air conditioner in the room worked well. It was also relatively quiet which was a pleasant surprise. I will say that the bed was way too firm for me. However the room did offer a choice of soft and firm pillows which did help. We did not have any trouble with hallway noise - I usually always ask for a room on a high floor and away from the elevator.

The free breakfast had both hot and cold items which included some form of eggs, biscuits and gravy, either bacon or sausage, cereal, yogurt, bread items, and hot cinnamon buns. The hotel also had a "make your own" pancake machine, but it was out of service (they were out of refills) 3 out of the 4 mornings we had breakfast. (To be fair, we went down to breakfast on the late side, so it may have been full earlier in the morning). Most of the other items were refilled frequently - and were truly refilled until the end of the breakfast time (6:30 to 9:30am). For the most part, we found the staff friendly, but the staff members we asked were not extremely knowledgeable about the area. They did have print-outs available at the front desk of area restaurants and attractions that did prove to be helpful. It is an easy commute to Hershey Park and there is a Dunkin Donuts Express and Perkins Pancake House (24 hour) almost directly across the street if you want decent food and are not in the mood to explore the area. This hotel was a great value for what we paid, considering other hotels slightly closer to Hershey were at least $50 to $100 more per night than what we paid. We would choose this location again if we ever come back to the Hershey/Lancaster area.

Room Tip: Ask for the third floor away from the elevator.

This is a nicely updated and clean hotel, but the staff left a sour taste. The night staff was under-trained and unprofessional in dealing with a sold-out/noisy weekend with multiple groups throughout the hotel. The thin walls added to the unpleasant experience for ALL guests in the hotel. There was a group that had been in the hotel all week, and apparently had the run of the place during the week. When we arrived at 11:00pm the lobby was overtaken by this group of dance parents. The lobby was VERY loud upon my arrival.

Nice hotel, freshly updated. We had not known our room was going to have a refrigerator and microwave - we could have brought more food! But there are several dining options nearby - McDonald's, Perkins, Pizza Hut Express, Harrisburg Pizza. Quiet location and very easy access to Hersheypark. Lingletown Road turns into Hershey Road which dumps you right into the entrance to Hersheypark and Chocolate World. Couldn't be easier! They were also very accommodating when we had to cancel the original first day of our reservation. The only negative was that the a/c cooled well but did not control humidity efficiently. Everything felt damp. But we will be happy to stay here again if we make a return trip to the area.

Don't stay on the first floor! Otherwise the hotel is nice a completely renovated. Staff needs to control the masses without a "there's nothing I can do" attitude.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

Our family stay was June18-19,2012. This hotel was formerly a Comfort Inn,and we also stayed there in the past.
This hotel is remodeled and opened about 4 weeks prior to our stay. So,the appearance is fresh and new! Our family thought the changes were "Wow." The lobby is contemporary and bright with comfortable seating. There is a business center in the lobby as well as a small enclosed fitness center.
The desk personal was friendly and offered us some restaurant suggestions. When checking out you can leave the key in your room,or return it to the desk.
The breakfast center is an open design, and can seat quite a few visitors. The breakfast selection, including the pancake machine ,should satisfy all. The coffee was plentiful, and there was an attendant to refresh and tidy up. There is an indoor pool right next to the breakfast center. I did not use the pool, and I do not think any changes were made to that area.

Our room was two queen size beds, and the contemporary furniture was placed along one wall. There is a relaxing chair with a pull up table that is perfect for a laptop as well. The design provides more than adequate work space for someone who may need to stay a few days.

Across the street from this hotel is a Truckstop with a general store, Dunkin Donut Express and a Perkins restaurant.

This is a good place to stay, and I am sure we will be back.

Don't look at any old reviews from when this was a different hotel. This Holiday Inn Express is only several months old (opened May 2012) and it's very clean and comfortable. A great stop along the trail! An excellent value as well.

Place was easy to find off the interstate. Very close to Hershey amusement park. Just a straight shot down the road to it. Biggest negative, was not many resturants close by. Had few gas stations close, had a Giant Food store not too, far down the road. Room was clean and I like that they used encasements for the pillows and the mattress, so didnt worry about bed bugs, since that was a concern , been hearing alot about it in the news lately. Room was good size, the 32 inch flat tv was nice . Hot tub was nice, didnt go into the pool. Had a room with two queen size beds, I thought my bed was little hard, went to Walmart and got a foam pad to put on it, and it help some. My daughter's bed was little softer. The Continental Breakfast was very good. Had sauage patties one morning, sauage links another , gravy , eggs boiled one morning, fried another , scrambled on antoher morning, they had biscuits and gravy , I loved the pancake maker, you only had to push a button and in a few minutes it rolled out a couple of pancakes, you didnt have to pour batter into anything, didnt have to make any mess. they also had fruit, muffins, bagles. Orange juice to drink, or apple juice, water, coffee. I like that they had the breakfast from 6:30 to 9:30, so if you like to sleep in, you still could make it down to get some breakfast.
