“Peaceful and Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2008

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in the William Penn Room. The room was nice and clean, very clean. I even checked the lamp shades, canopy, .......all free of dust. The room looked exactly like the pic on their web site. There was only one chair in the room, wished there were two. The bed was comfortable, and the bed sheets were soft and clean. The bathroom was roomy, and yes...it was clean. At night the spot light outside the window was very bright, we had to stack the throw pillows on the window sill to block it before we went to sleep. Breakfast was average, your normal eggs, bacon, french toast, nothing fancy. The ground was well kept and peaceful. Brogan, the dog, was very friendly, ready to walk along side of you for a walk on the property but we didn't get a chance to take him up on his offer. Overall this place is quiet, peaceful and clean.

  • Liked — cleanliness, comfortable bed, soft bed sheets
  • Disliked — only one chair in the room

Oh, the bed! Comfortable, solid, felt wonderfully clean and crisp. We stayed only one night for a portion of our honeymoon and were pleasantly surprised. Not only was the B&B situated in a lovely area, but the grounds were perfectly kept. The staff was friendly without being overbearing- although they seemed like they would chat if we had wanted to. The quick tour was informative without being tedious. Chipping range and Brogan the "walk you" dog were nice touches. We enjoyed watching frolicking horses and goats over breakfast. We look forward to the vineyard coming into production!
The only peep I heard was from the inkeeper's room in late morning by a child- but would have never heard it in the bedroom- they seem to have taken great care to soundproof the room. Everything else was silent and pleasant. They jumped at the chance to fulfill my husband's last minute special treatment request, and we wanted for nothing. Take their advice and eat at the Gables- the short drive is worth it. We look forward to returning for our anniversaries for years to come.

First, a couple of recent changes. A number of the wood-burning fireplaces, in the common as well as guest rooms, have recently been converted to gas/propane. Heaven. At the end of a day it is great to sit in a large wing chair and relax next to a roaring fire. Common rooms too often are nicer in theory than in practice, but not here.

We stayed in the Dormer room, at the top of the old part of the main building. It's very spacious and well furnished with a large bathroom. It has its own thermostat -- which is a perk. Also, since it faces the rear of the property it is ultra-quiet.
The bed was as comfortable as any in a B&B we've found. Generally they are too soft often resulting in a morning backache, but not here.

There are two very friendly dogs (we're dog people) that greet you on arrival. Also, there is fast computer for guests, as well as Wi-Fi (which we didn't use). The inn-keepers couldn't be nicer, and are happy to give advice on restaurants, local activities, etc.. We used the "fitness center," and there was good trail running (our sport) not far away, although the roads themselves are not safe enough to run (and there's a track about a mile away).

On the whole, an excellent experience. We've stayed in the area a number of times, and this was by far our favorite spot, even in the dourness of winter. We look forward to returning when Spring arrives.

We were greeted warmly by humans and animals. We loved the historic aspect of the Inn and enjoyed feeding the goats, sheep and horses. Due to a rainy stormy day, the electricity went out during our stay and the Innkeeper immediatley brought us flashlights. The Inn is very romantic and rustic and offers a relaxed atmosphere for reading, playing pool or sipping wine by the fireplace in the library. If you don't bring your own wine they have reasonably priced wine which is offered on an honor system. We have to agree with the most recent review regarding houskeeping. I dropped something which rolled under the bed and in retrieving it saw alot of dirt and an item that was not mine. Another small complaint we had was that the room was not as pictured as it is shown on the web site. One of the reasons we chose and booked the garden room was because it is pictured as having a four poster canopied bed. In actuality it only had a plain headboard. We did not bring this to the attention of the Innkeepers because the Inn was fully booked and they would not have been able to accomodate us in another room. So in their defense they were not given the opportunity to rectify the situation.

My husband and I spent the weekend here to celebrate our anniversary. The innkeeper who greeted us on Friday was friendly and the farm is truly beautiful with a romantic relaxed atmosphere. The house and grounds were well-maintained and clean. The innkeeper recommended a local pizza and salad place that delivered for a late dinner in our room that night! We stayed in a cottage and the room was clean, cozy, and we enjoyed the jacuzzi and fireplace. Breakfast was very good but ended a little early (9:30am). One very nice thing is that there are several tables for 2-4 so you have a private table.

Our only complaint is that housekeeping didn't empty our trash when they straightened our room! I guess it normally wouldn't be a huge problem, but we had the pizza box and various newspapers/drink containers from our drive there so it was a full trash can. Hopefully this was just an isolated incident and not a general policy of the inn.

A college trippin' expedition brought us here, as our daughter did an overnight at nearby Swarthmore College. After some 9 hours on the road, we were delighted to find this B&B just as bucolic as advertised. Not big B&B fans (hate the make-nice routine with strangers over breakfast, before we've even had enough coffee to be fully awake), we booked a cottage to ensure privacy, and were not disappointed.

Our "cottage" was really just a small room -- which was explained to us at the time of booking -- but the key component for us was the private deck overlooking a pasture and barn. Oh, how quiet and peaceful after that long highway drive.... We settled in with a bottle of wine, some tapas-styled snacks that constituted our dinner, and slept like babies, the only sound being the crickets and other late-summer evening insects. H-e-a-v-e-n.

Can't say anything about breakfast, since we slept in and didn't partake (closing up breakfast at 9:30 AM seems to us early, but then, my husband works nights and is NEVER awake before 11 AM unless the house is on fire...), but when we booked the room we asked about a coffeemaker. We were told our chosen room (the Herb Cottage -- the teeniest little room, but so comfortable and lovely, we were enchanted) did not ordinarily have this amenity. Still, the innkeepers went out of their way to pay attention to our request; when we checked in, we were told we'd find the coffeemaker in the closet. We did, plus plenty of good coffee. A nice touch...

Swarthmore seemed like a great college and pleased the prospective student. Personally, I'm hoping daughter is accepted primarily so we can spend Parents Weekends at Sweetwater Farm....

  • Liked — It's a 50-acre farm -- what else need be said....?
  • Disliked — Would have liked breakfast served until a later hour.

We chose Sweetwater for our wedding ceremony and reception. We've also been visitting the place for the past year as we were planning our wedding long distance. This is the perfect place. It's an old stone house set on a beautiful farm with an abundance of animals, a sweet old barn, tucked away hiking path through the woods. They serve a yummy breakfast each morning and think about details such as leaving out something to nibble on while you're breakfast mate is still sleeping. And in the afternoon, there are always freshly baked goodies. The Manor House has many comfortable spots to hideaway and read a book. And the cottages are adorable.

But the most remarkable aspect is the staff. Sean and Farrell, the current innkeepers take such good care of their guests. When we rented the inn for our wedding, our entire immediate family and wedding party stayed there and they truly made it feel as if it were our home. And their dog, Brogan even takes you on a tour of the property if you utter the right words...Chris, the owner took excellent care of us.

During the stressful moments before the wedding, there were a few slip ups that were not Sweetwater's responsibility (missing rose petals for the flower girl, needed balloons to mark the entrance, etc.). The staff stepped in to help just to make our lives easier. Eleanor, a woman who works there, even dropped off a gift bag for one of our guests staying at a nearby inn, just because it was on her way home.

Sweetwater is taken care of with such love and care that you'll want to treat it the same way. We'll be staying there again and again...
