My husband and I went for the first time and were impressed. We started with their dim sum sampler, which was fantastic. There were 7 different items on the sampler and each one was fantastic. Next time we go we plan on ordering a couple of regular sized appetizers to enjoy them more!
We then ordered two main dishes to share. We ordered the spicy beef and shrimp as well as the twice cooked pork. The pork was fantastic. You could tell that they used fresh high quality vegetables in the pork dish. The cabbage was still crisp; it hadn't been over cooked. And the pork was tender and flavorful. The sauce, though described as spicy, was a great mix of savory and sweet flavors. The beef and shrimp dish was listed as one of Margaret's favorites, though we thought the pork was better. The sauce was slightly too salty. However, both dishes were great and we'd definitely go back again.
Two other comments to make: First, to enjoy a Chinese restaurant like Margaret Kuo's, I'd recommend ordering several dishes for the entire table to share. That way you can try new things each time you go and still keep old favorites too! Secondly; others commented about the price. The entrees ran mostly between $13-20. There were a couple (like the Peking Duck) that were higher, but the food portions were plenty and for a restaurant on the Main Line, the prices were very appropriate to other places in the area. Our total bill was $43 before tip for an $8 appetizer and two entrees plus tea. Yes, it's more than the average take out Chinese Restaurant, but very well priced for the area and quality of food.
We'll definitely be back!
