“Great camping beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Have stayed here a few times both with just some girl friends and another time with my sister, 2 young nieces and another friend and her family. It is family friendly, well maintained beach. You are in close proximity to Waldemeer Park and Presque Isle. We loved that we were right on the beach and when you wake up there is the water! We got there each time on a Friday morning early to set up the tents. If you come after 12 pm, good luck in finding a spot for the weekend. You would be best to come Thursday if you want an ideal spot for the weekend. The little convenience store is great for those forgotten items or just need something small and don't want to go back up over the hill to the store. They do sell wood for you to use in the fire pits. My nieces would rather go here camping than at my friend's camp in Tionesta, because as they put it the campground has a bathroom and my friend's camp (rustic) had an outside bathroom (outhouse). They love that they can use the bathroom and shower here (my nieces are 6 & 7). ha ha. Over all this is a great experience for both adults and kids to camp here. Enjoy and relax!

We stayed Wed and Thursday nights on the lake side at the beach. Camping sites were not designated, but at mid week we were able to find room for our 3 tents and supplies. A large picnic table and fire ring was available for our use. Though in close proximity to other campers, our experience was delightful. We arrived a day after a huge storm so it was windy and by the next morning the there was a great amount of debris ashore, but the camp attendants worked tirelessly to clean it up. I was very impressed. We were able to swim right in front of our site and skipped rocks to our hearts desire. Nearby we biked Presque Isle and lounged at one of the many beaches there. There is a camp store at Sara's that offered ice and wood for sale at a reasonable price. Milk and ketchup (items we forgot) were for sale at a reasonable price as well. All and all a good time and I highly recommend camping here if you don't mind close neighbors and little privacy. The sunsets were spectacular.

Room Tip: Come early and midweek for beach camping. It starts filling up by early Thursday.

My boyfriend and I camp a lot. This was a really unique camping experience. We really enjoyed it. Some of our highlights were the cleanliness of the place, helpfulness of staff, value of the overnight stay.
You can set up shop wherever you want on the beach, have a bonfire and have drinks.
A couple things to consider:
- this is not an experience for everyone. If you need well constructed boundaries and borders then you prob won't like this. If you're generally alright with going with the flow and like new and different experiences that might go as expected or may not, then you'll be fine.
- bring quarters for the showers (25 cents for 5 minutes)
- bring a grate and fire ring for cooking over the campfire.
- come on a week day!!!we came on a Monday and Tuesday and it was still really busy.
- we went right by the ocean and it was quieter, but the gulls are really noisy in the morning (ear plugs?)

Enjoy!

Sara's is a nice little campground. Well maintained. Nice restroom facilities. Management and staff friendly. Neighbors were causing problems at about 2:30 in the morning and staff immediately showed up and handled professionally. Only downside is not being able to make weekend reservations. If you ever get the chance to tent on the beach try it, it is fun.

They cram everyone onto the beach. I was kicked in the head while sleeping, people fell into my tent and knocked it over. I also got robbed while here. They didn't want to do anything another camper who was also robbed had to call the police themselves... the police were very helpful but the people who run saras campground told us there was nothing they could do. My tent was touching other peoples tents because they just let anyone willing to pay on the beach for camping. It was the worst experience of my life. I will never ever return here. EVER!!!! stay away if you can. Presque Isle Passage is a little further away but much much nicer only like 10 minutes from the state park. Invest your time somewhere other than saras campground.

Sara's Campground is the only place in the continental United States where you can actually camp on the beach. That's right, you can pitch your tent or park your camper right in the sand, anywhere you want. There really aren't set "camping sites"; you just kinda make your own once you're there. Swimming in Lake Erie at this Campground is "at your own risk", but it's the best (like the good ole days); no one yells at you for floating on rafts or going out too far in the water. You can bring island floaties, water trampolines, canoes, kayaks, or anything you want including jet skis. The owners, staff, and permanent campers are amazingly nice and helpful. The restroom/shower rooms are super clean. There is a lot of stuff for kids and adults to do in the campground and nearby (refer to their website). Some of the reviews state it is not a family destination, but all I see are family's having the time of their life, but I guess occasionally people have a bad experience and judge this place by one bad experience. Weekends can be a little crowded on the beach, but during the week is not too crowded. I love this campground and what it offers to family's, couples, and individuals alike. The sunset's are amazing. If you don't like people and sand, this is not the place for you. I go to Sara's several times per season and have been going for 10+ years and I have never had a bad experience- NOT EVEN ONE!!!

Room Tip: In case of a storm, do not camp to close to the water as the waves can get real big and wash your ca...
