“For those who love American history!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

This is a great location to visit other attractions, while in the area. Learn about col. Perry and the battle of Lake Erie and how it changed the history of America. Beautiful complex with a great view of the bay!

“Learn more about the Battle of Lake Erie”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

Good stop on the shores of Lake Erie. Large museum with actual ships. Replica of USS Niagara from the Battle of Lake Erie is stationed here. Great exhibits on how sailing ships worked and a great video. Parking is convenient.

“nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

We have stopped by here on 2 different trips. The first time we got to see the Niagara as it was pulling out of dock. The 2nd time we actually got to tour the ship. Very neat. Down below you do have to walk bent over. So much history. Very interesting.

“War of 1812 Museum is Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

If your passing by Erie PA on interstate 90, a must stop and see is the Erie Maritime Museum. Not only does the Museum have a great variety of 1812 displays and artifacts, it hosts the Brig Niagara, Commodore Perry's Flagship. The Brig Niagara was the ship Perry transferred his command too after his was destroyed during the initial engagement during his victory over the British in Lake Erie 200 years ago. This victory left the Americans in complete control of Lake Erie and hastened the peace process. Perry might have flown his banner "Don't Give up the Ship", but this attraction is an absolute "Don't miss the opportunity to see the Maritime Museum".
