“Our Home Away From Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We love staying here. We travel to Erie with our young girls to visit Presque Isle, Waldameer, Splash Lagoon, etc. etc. Each time we stay here, we are pleasantly satisfied. The front desk staff is very kind. Free breakfast is a plus. The indoor pool and hot tub is nice too. I like how clean the entire hotel is. The staff is so accomodating to our needs and requests too. The rooms are spacious. We love the two bedroom suite. It really is our home away from home!

The TownePlace Suites is sort of "tucked away" behind two other hotels at the back of a large shopping plaza parking lot; however, the location is very convenient to I79 and other major roads in Erie. There are also many stores and restaurants in the immediate area. The front desk staff is very friendly and accommodating. We had made some special requests for a room when we made our reservation and those requests were all honored. Our room was clean and very adequate. We never saw anyone else on our floor during our entire stay, so it was very quiet. The free continental breakfast had the usual items. Nothing luxurious but this is certainly a good place to stay for a night or two.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room away from the TowneCenter room where the continental breakfast is served...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

I recently stayed at this hotel for the better part of a week; having flown in for a family member's surgery at a nearby hospital. Not counting the reason I was there in the first place (Hah), it was a really great stay.
I was checked-in by a really friendly, efficient and all around very pleasant woman named Joanna. The woman gets two thumbs up and five stars all the way. She was exceedingly accomodating, genuinely friendly and really just exactly what any sensible person would expect from a quality hotel employee. When a hotel's employees grasp the importance of what it means to do their job and when they clearly enjoy what they do, you know that they run a tight ship and that you're in the best hands possible. That's how I felt.
The room was perfectly roomy and had everything I needed. A kitchenette; dishes; utencils; full-sized fridge and freezer. I could go on. The bathroom was spacious, clean and well-stocked with very plush towels.
The bed mattresses are very soft and comfortable as well.
One thing that's noteworthy.... or that I notice easily, anyhow, is how clean the place was. I mean it didn't just look clean. It smelled clean. You know. like nothing. Just clean, fresh air. No artificial scents, no weird airplane-like dryness to the place. Just clean. Hats off to housekeeping.
Speaking of housekeeping, they were very lovely as well. I hardly saw or heard them at all. On the couple occasions where I did require turndown service and/or cleaning, they did a fantastic job.
Other useful in-house amenities: Great little business center for boarding passes; decently sized indoor pool and jacuzzi; a good little free continental breakfast in the morning; well stocked market.
On the final morning of my stay, I'd requested a late check out, as I had a late flight. Not only did the receptionist (Melissa, I think her name was) cheerfully consent to giving me one, but she went beyond the call of duty by actually asking the GM if I could have an even later late check out, given the circumstances. Too.Kind. It's a rare occasion to be so well accomodated without spending four or five hundred bucks a night. I met them both, Melissa and Mark, at check out and made sure to thank them personally.
Now I should say that this is not a vacation destination, in my opinion. That is, unless you're visiting relatives or just like the nearby shore. It's right by the mall. You don't get any noisyness from the area really. But you're better off if you've got a car. It's a really easy drive to and from the airport as well.
All in all, I was extremely satisfied with my stay here and would love to come back sometime. Thank you to the hotel staff for making an otherwise rough week a lot more easy on the nerves.

We moved out from the Fairfield Inn just across the road from this property after a disappointing experience there. Whilst this is similar to Marriott's 'Residence Inn' offering, it had common features that you expect from a Marriott flagged property. The rooms are sizeable, with a full kitchen, although ours had an awful 'indian' food stench every time you walked in, and it was a shame we were provided a different room to the one which they had shown us when we first enquired. Also the bathroom walls and shower curtains had hairs on from previous guests, which isn't to the quality that I would expect. So those were the two minor negatives that take away from an overall positive experience.

Maureen, the very pleasant and well meaning sales manager, talks a lot and sometimes inappropriately reflecting her overtly conservative views at times when the recipients (eg. us) don't have time to chat. But I'd prefer this over rude, and uncaring staff members. Mark the GM, seemed to manage the front desk most of the time which seemed odd, but was very accommodating and helped with a view 'debit card' issues that we were having. (Remember - always hand a credit card in when checking in, which for some bizarre reason we forgot this time).

The breakfast is included and ends relatively early at 9am but has a variety of options including waffles, toast, muffins, cereals and yoghurts. Nothing fancy but not too bad. We did decide to head over to the nearby Starbucks on occasion though. There is a sizeable pool with hot tub at the property which is open till midnight and seemed very popular and was only busy with children at the weekends.

The local roads on the route into the property need fixing, as well as someone requesting the snow to be ploughed as it had been for all the neighbouring properties. It otherwise does feel, as it is located, a little out of the way from all the other buildings in this area of the Millcreek mall. Of course it is through being near the mall, that this hotel has the tag of being in a good location, and it genuinely is, enabling you to get access to most retail and dining options within this area of Erie.

So in summary, a good place if you're planning a low price visit to Erie, or are needing a place to stay for a longer period of time. It won't astound you, but it certainly won't let you down. All the little bits from the more reputable Marriott hotels feature, including free wifi and local calls,(and the less enticing, thin toilet paper and small bath towels) are what made this a much better and more comfortable stay than our time at the Fairfield which we didn't recommend.

Room Tip: See your room before checking in.

Excellent place, clean and tidy room with much space. Breakfast OK (cereal, yogurt, boiled egg, waffles).

I didn't have a car and wanted to take a walk after spending all day in meeting and then flying over to Erie, but not a good location for a walk or looking around. Only big stores and some few pubs nearby.

Great service.

Staff was wonderful, the best I ever encountered at a hotel! Everyone was extremley nice and made you feel glad you was there! It felt more like an apartment building then a hotel. The room was spacious, included a small kitchen even a dishwasher! Bathroom was small however, and only one mirror in the bathroom. Beds were very comfortable. Pool was a little cool, however the hot tub was nice. Breakfast area was roomy, kept well stocked. We enjoyed the stay!

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to ask....they are willing to help out!
