“Great Quality Museum - Don't let the little town fool you!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

Every time I go to Eldred I try to go to this museum. The exhibits are rotated so there has been different things to see. The quality of the static and interactive exhibits and videos are top-notch. There is an extensive uniform collection and library on the 3rd floor. The basement has a great collection of artifacts, information on how Hitler rose to power (which is a scary resemblance to our present situation) and newspapers from various towns during the war. You will find information about all of the service branches and the role of the Ammunition Plant in Eldred during the war. Allow yourself a few hours and be prepared to learn a few things.

“A real tribute to our soldiers and the civilians who supported them”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

The volunteers here are knowledgable. They have a great multimedia presentation to show the contribution of the Eldred area to our WWII effort. They have an extensive library and many other exhibits. A well done museum to educate our youth who need to know about firsthand experiences of this time period and a grateful 'thank you' to our veterans.

“An outstanding tribute to all Americans who won World War II.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011

The Eldred World War II is a treasure worthy of a visit by all Americans. The museum is dedicated to the women war workers of Eldred, Pennsylvania who spent thousands of hours making the munitions for our troops and our Allies and is filled with excellant displays of artifacts and stories over three floors with a research library on the third floor. Included are presentations of all branches of the service during WWII with the emphasis on the stories of the every day soldier, sailor, airman, & marine as opposed to the "stars" of the war, the big time politicians & generals. Their inclusion is incidental. The museum is also a classroom for presenting history to all ages, especially children. There is an interactive "tank mountain" in which visitors deploy radio controlled model tanks over a battlefield mock-up. The staff is most helpful and friendly. The director, Jay Tennies, is dedicated to a vision of a world class museum. Steve Appleby is the curator who I did not get to meet, but heard lots of good things about. Butch Patrick probably will greet you at the front door. For a reasonable admission ($5.00 senior) this visit is a must. Located in downtown Eldred, if you drive take US 6 from either direction to Port Allegany, PA, look for sign to Eldred about 12 miles from Port. Stay at a wonderful bed & breakfast in Port, the Inn on Maple Street, for a real treat. Ask Jay and Sharen about the musuem and the folks that run it. A nearer larger city is Bradford, PA which is a short drive away and has a commercial airport. If your family has a connection to WWII this is a must. Take your WWII heroes if possible. Children especially welcome. Not sure of pets, service dogs probably ok, best to call them. Enjoy your visit! "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it". Santayana

“Awesome museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2010

The town is small but the museum is amazing. It contains Medal of Honor recipient Col, Mitchell Paiges memorabilia. There are numerous exhibits and displays. There is a library with thousands of books on the history of the war. If you are a WWII buff, you may want ot attend this by yourself or with other buffs as is takes time to read about each item and watch the videos. For families, they have some exhibits that can be touched and operated which is great for small children. In the opinion of this veteran, this is a museum that should be visited by all Americans. One last note, they can only display about 15% of their entire collection so they rotate the displays.
