I have wanted to go to Shady Maple for about 20 years, and for some reason or another we just never seemed to make it there. They aren't open very late on Saturday night- maybe 8PM?? So that certainly has contributed to the reason we've never been. I had also heard it gets very crowded, and there are long waits- which may be true- but we got there at 6:30PM on a Saturday and didn't wait at all. It was very different- you pay first- I had never seen that before. We waited in line to be seated, but it wasn't more than 10 minutes- just a matter of seating the people in front of us. I was very impressed by the presentation, the food all looked good- the first thing that caught my eye was the ICEE machine!!! (Which i must admit, in all my excitement, i forgot to actually partake). There was a trememdous amount of food- I don't know how else to quantify it. Meat, potatoes, mac n' cheese, breads, salad, soups, veggies, fried chicken (my favorite dish there), fried shrimp, cheeses, desserts- pies- cakes- ice cream, Amish style desserts- cookies- an unbelievable selection of desserts. Even the selection for drinks was massive- sodas (many varieties), juices, (again- many varieties), tea (hot and cold) and coffee. I am sure I am missing something also... There are two "sides" (east and west I think they referred to it) and at a glance it seemed like the food repeated- but I did find some differences- so it is worth checking out both sides. Forgot- they also had manicotti and pierogies. If you are hungry, and big eater- this is THE place for you. If you don't like to eat, and eat like a bird- don't bother. The food was very good- and had that 'home cooking' feel and taste. For the immense size of this place- I never felt crowded or in the way of other people which is always great at a buffett. If you've never been- GO!
