“Fantastic castle creation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014

Architectural artistic fantasy. This home and tour is a great treat for the senses. Out tour guide, Tony, provided great stories to appreciate the building efforts, genius use of materials, and artistry of Fonthill. Henry Chapman Mercer was undoubtedly an interesting intellect of his time.
This was the first of three concrete buildings he constructed and all are still standing over 100 years later.
The tour is just over an hour and takes in part of the 44 room, 32 staircase, 10 bath, 5 bedroom home. Each room on the tour has a different feel, variety of tiles, art, and windows.
Going on a sunny day provides better light to see the intricate details of each room. I am excited to return and see more. Be sure to see the nearby Moravian Pottery & Tile works as well as the eclectic Mercer museum (about a mile away).

“Fonthill Castle was Henry Mercer's home, fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2014

We've visited the Fonthill Museum/Castle many times. I especially like their flashlight tour in the summer. We got to investigate by flashlights with our guide. The stories were awesome. Mr. Mercer build this place himself with relics from his world travels. The clay tiles are exquisite and they are still being made today, available for purchase in the gift shop. Rooms are various styles and themes. There's even a special staircase build inside the house for Henry Mercer's dog. Young and older kids will have fun with this one. It's not JUST about the tiles. There's a bit of spookiness in there too.

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2014

What an amazing building. Used to visit it when I was a kid.....and now as an adult. I never tire of seeing the home that Henry Mercer had built, and lived in. Beautiful place. Definitely a must see!

“Unique, Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

You've never seen anything like it. An American castle, but it is also a vertical maze. Words can't describe it, just go.

Did the after hours flashlight tour. It was very well done. Informative and loved the back rooms and stories. Our guide made it fun for all ages.
