Well, my wife and I, browsing on line for June lodging in the eastern PA area- discovered this Holiday Inn Hotel. We normally use this type of shelter for 1-3 nights when traveling with our kids. There are lots of nice alternate brand hotels in radius of this hotel, however once being advised by the Hotel that the property is fairly new, we booked 2 nights.
For us, in route back to Long Island from Ontario / The Falls Region, this Hotel turned out to be the perfect mid-way break.
1st impression is that this buildings lobby & interior is very well appointed - even has an upbeat contemporary flair. I particularity noticed things here similar to pricier Hotels...from certain decor to complimentary lemonade in the lobby.
Being a relatively new building, no qualms with the rooms. V/clean comfortable- fridge & micro etc..& flat screen although we didn't use it. A/C Quiet & efficient. Bathroom very neat...( sure the tissues were folded to look like flowers ) Everything you'd expect and more..The hotel shines everywhere. All the little things at this hotel seem to add up to a more enjoyable stay.
As for the service & staff.., is 2nd to none. It just seems as though do a little extra to make sure you feel at home. We know these chain hotels mostly run independently and managing the books & the property is the bottom line. From Management to Housekeeping- all are on the same page..very friendly.. & helpful. Welcome staff helpful re: information about their locations surroundings ... area attractions / shopping etc. We even got a tip about a local amusement park that isn't listed anywhere ! We spent some day hours at the park & had an unexpectedly wonderful time. ( 35 min +/- ) but worth it.
Aside from a Managers Reception a couple days a week which guests can attend..our June stay is in the middle of an area "business-promo" / bbq / getting to know you event being ran by Hotel Management. Needless to say , Management included hotel guests.
Breakfast area large & comfortable. The usual suspects.., bagels , cereal.., hot fix-en's.
We all enjoyed fresh fruit. Our kids enjoyed pancake machine..makes 2 in under 2minutes.
Pool & outdoor patio available..tables, umbrellas gas fire-pits / g`grill .... real enjoyable.
With lots of shopping and restaurants nearby, and easy off I-81. We found this Scranton location perfect. The Hotel is nestled perfectly.., a few steps from the main road..but situated just so...as one wouldn't know it.
Take all this Hotels structural amenities...it would just be another brand name shelter.
The staff here truly does the trick.
Only con is , my wife and I are still at odds about the calling this Hotel -Holiday Inn - Dickson City a motel or a hotel.
We will give this hotel another shot on our future trips.
Not sure if all rooms have frontage windows, but those that do yield a better view.
Higher floor us...
