This was my second visit to Casa Toro but sadly both experiences were similarly disappointing. Dining alone on a Saturday night and had a 20 minute wait before finally finding a seat open up at the bar so the place was busy. The bartender was fantastic. Very attentive, helpful and friendly. The place has a thriving, energetic atmosphere which is good.
Ordered the Fried Avocado as an appetizer and purposefully waited before placing my entree order with the bartender due to my first visit when our entrees where delivered minutes after our appetizers. Despite this fact my appetizer arrived and less than a minute later so did my entree. Why the kitchen staff fired my entree order before I had even received my app is absurd especially since I staggered the orders so I would have time to enjoy each course on its own. For this to happen on both my visits a year apart just proves there is no leadership in the kitchen. The kitchen staff is far too concerned with pushing tickets out as fast as possible instead of providing an enjoyable dining experience for the customers.
Besides the service gaff, the food was just average. Not bad but nothing notable or memorable. The Carne Asada was the thinnest (1/4" thick) I have ever seen. At first I thought they had cooked up a Steak 'Um instead of a Skirt or Flank Steak. The black bean side was fine however the rice was a terrible, mushy, flavorless mound not worth eating. By the time I got to try my Fried Avocado appetizer it was cold and not very appealing at all. Maybe it is better fresh and hot but I will never know thanks to the poor service of the kitchen staff.
Two bright notes from this otherwise dull evening were their salsa which I enjoy and the blueberry margarita special being offered at the time.
And lastly, having to jump over a pile of vomit left by an over-served patron just outside the entrance in order to leave the restaurant is a great way to end an evening. Don't think I will give them a third chance and will just have to stick with La Lupita Taqueria in South Bethlehem. Better food, great service and they are BYOB.
