My daughter and I spent a night at Hanna House after visiting Frank Loyd Wright's Fallingwater on Tuesday June 9th. With a 4:30pm tour of Fallingwater, dinner at the Pizza Barn (great calzones, average pizza located at 133 1/3 Sewarton Road), my daughter and I did not arrive at Hanna House until nightfall. It was nice to be greeted by Frances, her daughter Lillian and their beautiful dog Treasure, as well as a large piece of homemade chocolate cake with a generous helping of ice cream. We stayed in the New Room which was is on the ground floor of their lovely home, with plenty of windows and a view of the pond which we were told was stocked with fish.
I woke up early the next morning, put on my running shoes and within a quarter mile of the Hanna House was on the Great Allegheny bike trail. With a river on one side and forest and rock formations on the other side of the trail, I settled into a leisurely running pace along a soft paved trail that went on and on and on without interuption. During my eight mile run I did not cross one road, railroad track or even encounter any individuals for that matter.
After the run, Frances made my daughter and I a wonderful breakfast of waffles, fresh fruit and sausage. I wish we had more time at Hanna House but our next stop was six hours away by car so we left Hanna House happy, full and knowing we have a friend in Confluence PA.
