We came to this beautiful area for an outdoors weekend; whitewater kayaking in the Yough River for me and biking and swimming in the lake for Margaret (While this is a mountainous area, the Allegheny rail trail is close to the house and biking over long distances is very accessible). We chose the Hanna house based on the reviews on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. The place is an old farm house on 100 acres with lovely gardens. Frances, our host, has upgraded the place without changing its character. The original floors, walls, fireplaces, cabinetry and lovely porches are as solid and beautiful as they must have been 150 years ago. We stayed in the "New Room" which is not new but newly remodeled. It was large, comfortable and very airy with lots of windows. It had a fabulous shower modeled like a glen in the woods and also a terrific spa tub which was great for chilling out after a strenuous day. The room fronted on a main road but since this is a rural area, traffic was minimal and it was very quiet after 9 PM.
Frances prepared delicious breakfasts with a good variety of fresh fruit, eggs, waffles, blueberry pancakes, etc. She also likes to experiment with new recipes and made a delicious tomato pie one morning using her heirloom tomatoes. There is ice tea and cup cakes available all day. Frances has a personality which is upbeat and cheerful. Her unobtrusive manner helped open her guests to each other. Overall it was the kind of experience hoped for at a B&B but not always achieved.
