“OK, safe place w friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2010

I stayed for a couple of nights this time and have been there a couple times previously. It's near my work, so is conveniently located for my needs. Hotel is older but nicely kept. Bedding (comforters) are very old style, as are the pictures, etc, but the staff is friendly, hotel is quiet and safe. Restaurants are located nearby. No room service offered from an onsite hotel. Hotel does offer a small, nice bus to transport guests to and from locat restuarants in the evenings. Free breakfast in the morning including cooked to order omlets. Decent hotel to which I will return.

We stayed recently at the Concordville BW Hotel for the second time in about 6 months. We normally stay at Hampton Inns and rate them very highly. This particular BW offers a wonderful rate (we paid $83 including taxes with AAA), large clean rooms with amenities, and really outstanding service. The grounds are bautifully landscaped with a large duck pond and gazebo. Weekday breakfasts include a fantastic custom-made omelet (kudos to our 4/1/10 omelet chef). The service was great with the folks at the front desk working out travel directions for us via Mapquest. The only negative that I can come up with is that the entrance (on Rte 1 at 322) is a little hard to find. But overall this is the best bargain in the Brandywine area.

We visited the Brandywine Valley at the end of February 2010 for two nights.

Packages: We took advantage of one of the many package deals the hotel has to offer: 1 ticket to the Brandywine River Museum (Wyeth & illustrators) and ChaddsFord Winery. Ref their website for details - there are many packages. Previously, we stayed here with the Longwood Gardens package.

Food: Hot buffet breakfast consisted of two types of eggs, ham, sausage, make your own waffles, toasts, bagels, coffee, juices, cereal - you name it. There is a higher-end restaurant on site, as well as an outstanding bar occupied by grownups :-) Our bartender could not be beat.

Room: The bed was pillowtop with memory foam pad; bathroom sparkled; room large and comfortable.

Our Stay:
Initially, we were not able to make a reservation for a king bed room; however, the woman taking my call put us on a list. On our arrival, we were pleasantly surprised to find we had indeed been assigned to a king room. The down size of this, however, was the room was directly across from the kitchen & elevators on the 2nd floor. AVOID this room placement. At 6:30 AM we awoke to dishes & voices. On opening the door, we could tell the staff was not purposely loud, but it is just not avoidable because of the placement of the rooms. They moved their carts somewhere else, but it really didn't help much. We kept a good outlook though, and asked the frontdesk attendant to move us. Yet, again, there were no king rooms, so we elected to temporarily place our bags in a double room, hoping that later in the day a king would be available. After we came back from dinner (Buckley's Inn in Centreville=AMAZING) we were assigned to a king room at the end of the hall on the 3rd floor. It was exactly the same: comfortable, clean and modern, except that it was blissfully quiet the next morning.

While it was unfortunate we were placed next to the kitchen, we were impressed by the appropriately apologetic, polite and competent way the staff handled the situation. I'm sure most people experience hiccups during travel and are understanding of mishaps if they were treated with polite dignity and successful outcomes, yet so many service managers and employees miss this mark. This hotel did not miss that mark at every turn. We were contacted by a hotel manager to discuss the inconvenience after our departure as well.

This hotel is well worth the money, but we would not have returned if the staff had not handled our requests so politely and competently. If we make judgements by how one handles adversity, then I would give this hotel even higher marks.

3 stars for sleep quality because they should really try to do something to either physically upgrade the rooms near the kitchen or charge less for those rooms.

Stayed over this hotel during the blizzard. The staff was wonderful, they fed you in the morning, noon, and dinner. I slept in a comfy cozy bed. My room was very clean and comfortable. In the breakfast room of the hotel, there are Andrew Wyeth prints to look at while eating your breakfast. This is the perfect hotel to stay in while visiting the brandywine area, home to the famous Wyeth artists and Dupont's Longwood garden.

I chose the BW Concordville based mostly on TA reviews. I was not disappointed. This is a very nice hotel in a nice setting. The lobby is beautiful and the rooms large. While the rooms are not magnificent they are well-appointed, clean, and comfortable. Ours had a nice view overlooking a duck pond. Location is good, convenient to a lot of area attractions and also to shopping and the local road network. I will note that the place is not necessarily easy to find though: The website lists the address as "Rt. 1 and 322" which was less than helpful for its lack of exactitude and the sign along Rt. 1 is small and easily missed. It is not a bad idea to call beforehand and ask specific directions. The facilities, then, were very good all around. The breakfast was perhaps the very best part of the experience. It is a full breakfast buffet, with good quality items; this includes an omelet chef who made wonderful custom omelets. The only negatives were relatively minor: When we checked in our toilet did not flush, but when we called, the maintenance man arrived in about 5 minutes and fixed it in another five - pretty good service. Also, having run out of a toiletry item, I went to the front desk to ask if they had any complimentary samples, which was specifically advertised in the guest directory. I was told that they no longer do this and I must buy it: not a major issue obviously but annoying that they make a big deal out of having such items for guests and actually no longer do. On the subject of purchases, one nice touch with the hotel was that instead of vending machines, they have a miniature convenience mart next to the lobby where snacks and travel items can be purchased (and without gouging prices, to my surprise). All in all, a very good hotel I would strongly recommend.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2009

Stayed here for 5 nights over Christmas. Pleasant hotel in a nice setting. Sits back off the road a bit, so little traffic noise. We were awakened at 4am our first morning by music and after 20 minutes called the front desk; someone went in search of the culprit to no avail – was probably a clock radio that retained its setting from the previous morning; but I went out into the hall and heard nothing, so it likely came from the floor above us, which doesn’t say much for noise insulation. (The place was fairly empty when we were there, so not much to go on otherwise.)

Rooms are clean and nicely appointed. Desk with office chair. One wingback chair & ottoman next to small table seemed inadequate for two people sitting at it, but no space for more than that. Microwave, fridge, and 32-inch flat TV. Very comfy bed – don’t think I’ve ever slept better in a hotel/motel. Did squash a couple of bugs, however – one on the wall, one on the curtain – but these were country critters, not evidence of infestation. Curiously, this may have been the only hotel/motel bathroom I’ve ever seen without an exhaust fan (no heat lamp either). And you had to hold the handle a few seconds for the toilet to flush.

Complimentary breakfast buffet (posted as $11.95 for walk-ins) supplemented by an omelet chef – but only on weekdays, weekend mornings you have to settle for the tub of institutional scrambled eggs (plus meats & potatoes); there are also cold cereals and make-your-own waffles. No scrimping, either – I saw them refill the bread selection with actual Thomas’s English muffins, not some cheapo brand (and Lenders bagels – meh). About the only downside to the breakfast experience is the pair of TVs blaring news overhead – you’d think you were at the airport.

There was a local telecom outage that knocked out the outside phone lines & wifi for about 48 hours. Totally beyond the hotel’s control, but I was slightly disappointed that they offered no compensation for the inconvenience. “Tough luck,” eh?

Staff pleasant & helpful. Overall, a good choice – and the on-line AAA/senior rates helped level out the minor deficiencies.

Made the mistake of booking online when our daughter needed emergency surgery. We booked for 3 nights. Our daughter went to hospital, got prepped for surgery, and surgery was canceled. We informed staff of our dilemma after our 1st night and our need to cancel the 3rd night. We still got charged though a small amount was removed from the bill. The manager was never available for us to talk to. Our daughter's wedding party stayed here and we had planned on staying at this hotel whenever we needed to and recommending to others. We won't do that now. Also, we returned to our room after 2:30 in the afternoon and our room was untouched by housekeeping. The toilet leaked on the floor, the furnace was loud, and the lighting was bad.
