“Dining in nature”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

Now there is another great reason to visit Mombacho Volcano. On a recent afternoon, I decided to visit the newly opened Mombacho Lodge for lunch and to check out their forest cabins. It was everything it promised to be. Cool, quiet, except for the sounds of nature, surrounded by the volcano's lush green foliage, a lovely place to dine (and take a stroll through the woods). A delicious lunch was delivered straight from the open kitchen to my nature-side table. I got a glimpse at the well-constructed wood cabins and learned about the ways in which the lodge is off-the-grid. Can't wait to kick back and spend a night or two in the near future.

Even though Mombacho is only a few minutes from Granada we had not ventured there much. When Mombacho Lodge opened it gave us a excuse to visit. Amy and I went there for lunch and had a great meal sitting in an open air restaurant in the middle of a rain forest on an extinct volcano surrounded by monkeys. How cool is that? Granada can get warm at times while it is always refreshingly cool at the lodge so provides a nice recharge. We are thinking of getting a group to go there to just get away. Cute cabin rooms and so quiet.

My wife and I stayed in the "Strider" cabin at the Mombacho Lodge in Nicaragua for 4 nights over Labor Day weekend. Initially we were only going to stay for 3 nights, but after the first day we knew that we needed to stay longer. We loved the sounds of howler monkeys in the jungle canopy, rain on the metal roof, and wild birds. The cabins were very spacious with lots of windows, double doors, a porch, and full bathroom (very cool considering this place is totally off-the-grid). The Mombacho Grill was only a short walk from our cabin and we enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner from the Mombacho Grill. The bar at the grill is great, and the menu provided lots of food we enjoy, even accommodating for my vegetarian diet. This place is one of a kind. Check it out!

Room Tip: There are currently 4 cabins at the Mombacho Lodge. We stayed in the Strider and it was very private...

We were one of the first few guests in this newly opened eco-lodge style hotel on the side of Mombacho volcano and it made it perfect contrast and compliment to beach nights at San Juan Del Sur and a Granada city visit. Had a great dinner, then my kids had probably not seen night sky that dark outside the cabins, but in the morning the real treat were the amazing trees and the sound of howler monkeys in the distance. There's definitely not much to do at night, but enjoy the bar, read or play cards, but it's the perfect chill time outside the city. You can also come up from a day from Granada for a grille lunch; the town seemed pretty close, about half hour away and the drive from SJDS was really scenic and flat. We got a 3 meal plan and hiked from the lodge up to the coffee plantation on the mountain. I almost didnt spring for the tour and that woulda been a mistake, it was really interesting and keep teen sons rivited. Made it town to Granada in daylight, no prob.
