Nestled in beautiful horse country near Coatesville, PA is The Whip, a quaint English/Scottish/Irish type pub with great atmosphere and outstanding food. The day we visited we observed several handsome horses and riders heading for the riding fields across the road. This seemed appropriate since the pub's moniker refers to the horseback rider's equipment. Be forewarned, parking is a bit of a challenge. There were no spaces available when we arrived and we had to wait in the car for someone to leave, as there is no other safe place to park beyond their lot. Also, the parking arrangement leads to a dead-end, which creates a traffic jam for those who, looking for a spot, must now turn around. As we waited, we thought there was no way all of those people could fit inside such a small building. However, once inside, and after a short wait, we found seats and it didn't seem overly crowded. The menu has a broad appeal, leaning somewhat toward the tastes of Britain. The beer and ale selection rivaled the number of cars in the lot outside, as it seemed limitless. If you enjoy imported and micro-brew, this is your oasis! The service was great, the food exceptional and prices reasonable, considering the popularity of The Whip. You can find their menu on the internet and get directions too. If you are sightseeing and/or outlet shopping in the Lancaster area, it's a short, picturesque drive to The Whip for a treat to remember.
