“better than the reviews”

Inn at Nichols Village

Dec 28, 2007

I booked the room thru price line for 46 dollars a night. I came to trip advisor to read the reviews, boy was I upset I thought the place was going to be a dump That was NOT the case.
We checked in with no problem.I asked for a room in the main building and when I inquired about the pool hours the woman gave me a room on the third floor near the pool, The staff was very pleasant and the room was clean and very big.My only complaint would be the double beds were small. I would definitely would stay here again.

“Nichols Village Run Down”

Inn at Nichols Village

I last stayed here two years ago. Wow. What a difference. It's gone downhill, and the price was higher. Yikes.

I was excited about using the hot tub, only to find out it was only for people in a different building. This was not made clear when I reserved a room, and had evidently been assigned a room in that building previously. Very disappointing.

The indoor pool was freezing. Even hyperactive kids were sad because it was unbearable, and the property roped it off for a wedding reception in the afternoon! Ridiculous.

The room was falling apart. The knob on the faucet in the tub fell off in my hand, and the front of the room heater fell off in the middle of the night. Also, the tv was wacky--all kinds of weird wavy lines and distortion while we watched football one night.

This inn has a good restaurant and bar, but it's pricey for the quality. Luckily, the hotel is located right next to a very busy highway, with lots of fast food. Keep looking if you want a nice, secluded country inn. This hotel is right next to the overpass at the end of the PA Turnpike.

A guest was complaining at check-in that there was no complimentary breakfast. "Not even continental?" she asked. "All the other motels here have that" The staff motioned to their restaurant across the parking lot. The guest asked if there was a discount. Nope. She shook her head and stormed out to get her bags.

Way, way too expensive for a falling-apart hotel with limited amenities. Next time I'll go to the Hampton inn down the street. They'll have a pool and hot tub that's open, a free breakfast, and a money back guarantee.

“Ate at Fire Grill and had bad experience”

Although we did not stay at the Inn, my wife and I did recently go to the Fire Grill for a nice evening out. Wow that did not work out. First, we were greeted by a nice staff member who gave us our choice of seats. We reviewed the menu and ordered Caesar salads and asked what the soup of the day was. We knew the problems had started when we were asked what dressing we wanted on our Caesar salads and told the soup of the day was actually the chicken noodle from yesterday...wouldn't that then be the soup of yesterday? Anyway the salads arrived with almost no dressing on green leaf lettuce, (I though Caesar was made with romaine). We nibbled at those and let the server clear them. The entree's arrived. My wife's chicken was NOT DONE and was dripping red liquid. My rack of lamb was a tough as leather. I flagged the waitress, told her to give me the bill so I could get out of there and eat somewhere that knew what they were doing. This is a higher end higher priced place and they seem to treat it as a game or a hobby. Now to the waitresses credit she did offer to try to make it right, but we paid our bill and left. We were not looking for a free meal and were more than willing to pay for what we got. I suggest folks coming to Clarks Summit go to Patsel’s or Great Uncle Peter’s, they are a bit of a drive but this place came up real short for us.

“Acceptable for what i paid”

My boyfriend and I booked the inn through priceline. For what we paid, the in was alright. It was clean. There were little things that were wrong--Peeling wallpaper, cracked mirror on the wall, sheets that were too small for the bed...Little things, but not a 3 star experience.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — that I got it through priceline--Didnt pay full price...the pool was nice
    • Disliked — location on busy 4 lane street--view of rte. 476 and rte.11

I paid about $55/night which I got through priceline. My room was in a building not attached to the main building. I was told that this building was in the process of being SOLD and would soon not be part of the hotel. I can understand why as the rooms in this building were NOT 3 star rooms, basically more like a motor lodge. A friend was staying in the main building and his room was much nicer. Also, his room had wifi, where as mine did not. My room was VERY CLEAN, which is always nice. The staff was somewhat deficient. The first key they gave me didn't work. They forgot to call my friend with his morning wake-up call. The desk staff spent more time chatting and gossiping with each other and to my amazement wouldn't stop until I INTERRUPTED THEM. Normally when a guest approaches the desk, the staff stops on their own accord and turn and address the GUEST...but not here. The night time desk staffer seemed to be doing paper work and seemed annoyed that I dare interrupt him to ask a question.

Sorry, normally I take pictures but as the building is being sold didn't see the point in that this time.

In closing, FOR WHAT I PAID, it was good, but not a bargain as Priceline claims they give. If I had paid any more for what I got I would have been very disappointed.
