“great location-great place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2005

We love touring the Brandywine valley, so we were happy to find the Hamanasett bed and breakfast Inn ! OUr hostess, Ashley, not only makes great breakfasts and reservations for museums, theaters, dining and attractions, she actually has printed driving directions on hand, so you never get lost ! The location is great--in town but on a bit of property so you feel the pleasure of peacful surroundings ! Ashley keeps horses, which come up to the fence for treats, and two entertaining dogs greet guests. Our room was spacious, beautifullly decorated, and our bathroom was overflowing with generous samples of various bath products ! Our comfortable bed, great sitting rooms around the house, good food and helpful assistance with travel plans mean we will be coming back for sure !

My husband and I recently were fortunate to stay 3 nights with the good folks at Hamanassett Bed and Breakfast, built in 1856 in lovely Brandywine Valley. Innkeeper Ashley Mon, always readily available for questions, suggestions, directions, sees to all the expected and unexpected (fresh baked cookies right outside your room door) needs of her guests. Our room, the Inverness, was huge! I always appreciate it greatly when a room has a desk or writing table and ours did. Decor is antiques, the king-sized mattress so thick and linens so luxurious that it was a treat to hunker-down into a wonderful night's rest. Candlelight breakfasts were luscious, prepared by the owner herself, and served with wit and fun stories. The grounds and flower gardens are lush, populated by 2 swell dogs and 2 friendly horses. The area has many, many attractions. The ones we enjoyed most were Winterthur, a former home of the DuPonts, housing a fine collection of American-made furniture, and the Brandywine River Museum that includes a collection of paintings by N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, and Jamie Wyeth. Interesting to compare the work of 3 generations. Chadds Ford, PA, Wilmington, DE, and Philadelphia are all close by.

When we visited Philadelphia this Spring, we wanted to stay out of the city but be close enough to get there and go sightseeing. We are still thanking our lucky stars that we found Hamanassett House! What a gem it is and it's set in the Brandywine Valley - a place we hadn't heard of before but found out it's full of its own attractions including the Wyeth museum and the amazing Longwood Gardens. Ashley is the innkeeper and her brand of warm and welcoming Southern hospitality started the minute we arrived. Our room was extra large compared to other B&B's we've stayed in and it was really elegantly decorated, without being over the top or stuffy. The bed was super comfortable and we really enjoyed the billiard table and the selection of snacks and movies. The dogs were a real plus for us because we were missing our own pooch and the two breakfasts we had were great. I'm still trying to perfect my own version of a really yummy baked banana pancake! Returning to the Hamanassett house after spending the day in the city was a wonderful way to wind down and enjoy a really inviting historic house in a great country setting. We'd go back the next time we're in Phila. because the innkeepers and staff we're really friendly, helpful and knowlegeable about the area - that makes all the difference to us.

I could spend days exploring the Brandywine Valley but only had two nights. The location is ideal, the hosts delightful, the linens divine, and the amenities beyond compare. The Wifi set up was much appreciated and I will confess to more than one trip to the guest pantry. I must say that Regal, one of the dogs, gave me pause for a moment but then she turned out to be the sweetest moocher I've ever met. Her sidekick Gumbo is also a darling. Best of all, no one laughs at you when you miss your shot in the Billards Room. Rates are extremely reasonable for the location and the amenities. Don't pass it by!

Ashley and Glenn exude southern hospitality! The Brandywine Valley is simply gorgeous. The winding drive up to Hamanassett Bed & Breakfast leads you to wonder what's around the corner, and then you see this huge stately property standing amid the trees. Ashley promptly answers the door and ushers you in through a delightful sun room into a splendid front entry. The oohs and ahs don't stop there. Our room was thoughtfully furnished with everything we needed (even a TV, which is a must in March for NCAA basketball!). And breakfast...a feast for the eyes and stomach. Ashley prepares wonderful dishes...we left no crumbs!

If you go, and you should, don't overlook the Brandywine River Museum. It houses some very good 19th and 20th century American paintings (mostly), and to see the collection of Wyeth artwork is quite memorable. The building itself was designed to frame views of the river, which flows beside the structure. Quite wonderful.

You won't regret staying at Hamanassett B&B. Call Ashley and Glenn and reserve a room today! It's a great getaway!

My husband and I recently went to a meeting in Philadelphia area and found Hamanassett Bed and Breakfast. Even though it's close to the city, it's in a lovely setting in the Brandywine Valley area and sits on several wooded acres. The grounds are beautiful. It's a grand old house, with rooms decorated with fine antiques from the owners' collections. Ashley and Glenn have thought of everything. They even provide treats to feed to the two horses in the field beside the B&B! The house itself has been lovingly restored. Guest rooms are full of comfortable touches. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud, with fine linens and beautiful appointments. The guest pantry is stocked with snacks and drinks to suit every taste. Breakfast is a feast for the eyes as well as the tummy. The table is set with fine china, silver and crystal. There are candles and fresh flowers. And the innkeeper's two dogs are absolutely delightful, friendly and happy. This is a hidden jewel.
