“Surprise Charges for Children”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2010

I made online reservations for a 2 night stay at this establishment. After I entered all the necessary information, including the number of people (adults & children) that would be in the room, the online reservation quoted me an acceptable price so I confirmed the reservation. Upon our arrival, I was informed that we would have to pay an additional 20 doaars a night because me chilren were both over the age of 10. This was very disconcerting, but we had to eat the charge because we arrived later in the day and were really left with little or no choice. This put a significant damper on our entire experience at The Lodge at Chalk Hill.

My husband and I stayed at this lodge, but we were very disappointed. First the walls were very thin; and we could hear everything going on in the next room. The TV remote did not work and the TV was acting up. the towels were thin and dingy looking. When we can home one late afternoon, there was a handyman installing a new screen door. We were NEVER informed that he would be on our back deck.

I cannot recommend this place and was very disappointed. If we did not pay in advance and if we were going to stay longer, we would have left and asked for our money back.

There was nothing amazing and nothing bad about the Lodge at Chalk Hill. It was a good place to spend a couple of nights while checking out things in the area.

Each room has a little deck area on the back, which is nice, and our room had a view of the pond on property. There was some animal that was swimming around in the water that my friend and I called "the chalk ness monster", "chalky" for short. It added a little bit of humor on a rather gloomy and rainy night.

The only things that I would have to say against The Lodge at Chalk Hill, and neither were that bad, one is that the highway is much closer than I had anticipated. I could hear the semis barreling down the road at night, but it wasn't too bad really. Also, the lobby always smelled of Curry. Once again, it wasn't that big of a deal, I was only in there to check in and check out, but it left an impression.

Overall it was a nice place and reasonably priced.

Location of motel is great. Beautiful setting overlooking a body of water. The employees were kind and helpful. The motel itself is quite out dated. Needs many enhancements and improvements. The screen door on our room was repaired with duct tape. The towels were very thin and rust stained. While the room itself was clean, it was hard to over look the fact that we would have been much more comfortable some place else.

We had such a wonderful time staying at the lodge....was close to major attraction we visited...rates were very reasonable, very clean rooms and very friendly staff. Continental breakfast was amazing and had wonderful time sking because of all the snow they had...Overall great facility and will definately recommend my other friends and family.

older facility, but a just right location to stay if you like historical attractions. This hotel is along the National Road and is close to Fort Necessity, Braddock's Grave, Friendship Hill, and historic restaurants. Also, close to FallingWater and Kentuck Knob, and Ohiopyle State Park. Be sure to take your camera. The price for this hotel is affordable and the staff is very helpful. It is not a luxury hotel, so don't expect high-end amenities. However, it is a lovely little hotel to stay at for a getaway weekend. Oh, and there is a winery next door.

We stayed here for 3 nights in Oct 09. At first I have to say we found it a bit primitive but as time went on, it grew on us. The room was comfortable and clean enough although the sheets and towels need replacing urgently. The view of the lake was nice and the breakfast basic but good (except the coffee which was dreadful) However wi-fi and ice are only available in the lodge - a long hike up hill. It was reasonable value for the area, which is quite expensive and it is very convenient for Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob - the purpose of our visit. The whole complex needs updating. It could be really lovely with a little TLC. The Lodge building could be a nice restaurant and bar area in the evening - instead there are just a few people sitting in the gloom staring at lap tops. What a waste. Also it badly needs a self service laundry. The nearest one is several miles away. Still good luck to the owners - let's hope they can find the capital to make that investment.
