4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2011

My husband and I booked two nights here for a getaway to the Brandywine Valley area. We stayed in the Carriage House, Suite 1 which was lovely. The Inn itself is very nice and the staff is friendly and accomodating. For breakfast we had to book a specific time to commit too. That was hard as we were not sure exactly what time we would be up. The food however was good with an egg dish, pancakes and a quiche dish. I had the pancakes one morning and quiche the next. There was a buffet of fruit, cereals, yogurts and little cakes. Plenty to eat. The grounds were quite nice. We had a deck which looked out onto a beautiful garden. On the premises in addition to the guests is a nice dog named Ozzie and two cats Harriet and Salmon. Very friendly, sweet animals. We liked the inn very much. The only downside in our room was there was not much counter space to put things down, the bathroom was small and the TV was tiny. The furniture did not face the TV. You could watch it from the bed but the bedpost was in the way of viewing and the TV was too far away and small to see comfortably. Some may say you don't go to a bed and breakfast for a TV but then if you can't see it why have it. My husband got sick while we were there and the TV was the only thing to do for a day as we were stuck inside. One other thing the bed is comfortable but they only seem to have foam pillows no feather. The pillows were too bouncy for us. Other than that the Inn was very nice. We would recommend staying there. It is centrally located to everything in Brandywine Valley.

I followed another reviewer's suggestion and reserved rooms in the Carriage House to avoid street noise. The road in front of the house is not wide, but is fairly well trafficked. The rooms were airy, immaculate, beautiful and very comfortable, each with a deck overlooking the peaceful garden. While I agree that the 15" tv screen doesn't invite lengthy viewing, we weren't there to watch tv. The Carriage House is a few minute walk past some lovely plantings to the main house. You have a choice of breakfast entrees, and can help yourself to yogurt, fruit and cold cereal. One reviewer complained about the bite-sized pastries. We enjoyed putting together a small sampling plate to complement the ample breakfast offered. Great coffee - a must for me in the morning. The owners couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful, same with the staff. We helped ourselves to afternoon tea and treats. I felt restored by my stay at the Fairville and look forward to our next visit.

We stopped at Fairville for two nights on the way to visit friends in Viriginia Beach and then for two more nights on the way back. We used our stopover as an opportunity to visit Winterthur and Longwood Gardens. We stayed in Carriage House 1 on the way down and Carriage House 3 on the way back. Both rooms were immaculate and very very quiet! The Carriage House is at the back of the property the rooms have decks which overlook peaceful gardens. It is a very short walk to the main house for breakfast. Ozzie, Rick's dog greets you on the way to breakfast. There is granola and yogurt available for breakfast with a wide choice of juices. Also there is a egg-based dish or different flavor of pancake each day. Coffee is delicious! The Inn is on a PIKE i.e. very busy road and the main house is very close to the road. Unless noise doesn't bother you, I would book a room in the Carriage House or Spring House. Each room in the Carriage House has its own thermostat which is a big plus for us because we like a cool room to sleep in at night. The only negative comment I might have is echoing someone else's remark about the tiny televisions. When you're used to a big flat screen t.v. at home, the 15" screens in the rooms are a surprise but we don't go on vacation to watch t.v. so that was a minor thing. The staff was very accommodating. We would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Stay in the Carriage House or Spring House

The Fairville Inn is a gem. Great location, comfortable rooms in a beautifully maintained historic property, friendly and helpful hosts, and delicious gourmet breakfasts and afternoon tea make the Fairville Inn the place to stay in the Brandywine Valley. We're not the easiest travelers to please and we honestly couldn't find anything to complain about (well, the TV in the room is quite small but we didn't come to this beautiful part of the country to sit in our room and watch television).

Laura and Rick, the owners, and their staff are very knowledgeable of the area and you can absolutely depend on them for restaurant recommendations, things to see and do in the area, and for any other information you may need. We loved the Fairville and will certainly return when we're in the area again.

We spent two nights here to get away from the kids and the chores. Couldn't have been a better choice in all the county. Rick and Laura were friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to answer questions about dining, local attractions, the buidlings, whatever we asked. The room we had, Carriage House 1, was Huge. King size bed, timed gas fireplace, separate sitting room, deck with a view.. quaint and quiet, yet also well equipped and spotlessly clean. Breakfast in the main house each morning, fresh cooked and several choices. Tea and snacks in the afternoon, just enough to tide you over till dinner at any over the local restaurants convenient to the inn. Centrally located near many Chester County attractions such as Longwood Gardens, wineries, museums, etc. Can't wait to go back!

The Fairville Inn was our final destination on a two week tour of the east, staying at bed and breakfast’s from Vermont to Maine down to Pennsylvania. We stayed in a wide variety, many being sub-par, the Fairville Inn was in a class of its own. A perfect end to our trip. If one can rate B&B’s with the star system, the Fairville Inn gets a 6. The owners were very personable, the rooms were fantastic, and the breakfasts were superb. I would highly recommend staying at the Fairville Inn to anyone wanting to stay in the Brandywine area.
