“Lovely getaway. Exactly what you'd like in an Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago via mobile

I only rated it a 4 instead of 5 because the jacuzzi tub was in the bathroom (not a romantic view) and the shower was small. The room itself was lovely (116 I think) the bed was really comfortable, the gas fireplace was a treat and the staff was outstanding!

We were pleasantly surprised to find a warm fireplace and spa bath in the room which provided a quiet night's sleep. The morning Continental breakfast was nicely presented and tasty. And the Brandywine Prime restaurant across the parking lot serves delicious steaks!

Room Tip: Our first floor rear room was quiet.

This time for a business trip on weeknights ... we were kindly upgraded from a regular Queen to the Jacuzzi suite. Even though we didn't use the Jacuzzi or fireplace, it was great to have the extra space, which included a comfortable sofa and mini-fridge. The room and bathroom were spotless; the bedside reading lamps were good; and the thermostat let us keep the room at the exact temperature we wanted. Excellent wifi access on our iPad and cellphones; didn't have to enter any codes. Front desk staff members were friendly and helpful.

One of the big advantages, as always, is that you can walk a few steps down the hill to enjoy two of the best restaurants in the county: Brandywine Prime and Antica. Both are top-notch. Also a few steps away is BrandyWines, which has selections from various local vintners (only). We bought a bottle of Chaddsford Winery 2012 Proprietor's Reserve Red for $18--it was excellent. The shop proprietor works at Amica sometimes so she actually unlocked the store for us and offered a mini-tasting. Super-nice.

Back to the hotel: I like having breakfast on real dishes, not styrofoam and plastic. There's a waffle iron for those malty waffles, a selection of muffins, and cereals, including a big jar of plain Cheerios. My partner felt the coffee was weak; I'm not a coffee drinker so I appreciated the large selection of herb teas. We both wished that cups of plain yoghurt were offered (not just peach, cherry, etc.). I was a little worried when I saw some guests enter with a dog, but luckily the animal was not noisy. The hotel has a policy where they'll ask the dog owners to go elsewhere if the dog cannot settle down (wish all hotels had this).

All in all, I would not consider staying anywhere other than the Brandywine River Hotel either for business or pleasure in this area (it's an easy drive to Longwood Gardens, Brandywine Museum, town of Kennett Square where we were working). This is so much better than a chain lodging.

Room Tip: Suite 101 is lovely. Being at the back of the hotel is super-quiet.

We had a wonderful time at this warm and inviting hotel. The room was clean and the hotel was quiet. The staff could not possibly be more accomodating. We will definitely be back as well as refer this hotel to our friends.

We enjoyed our room very much; had a nice fireplace and Jacuzzi tub which were very nice.. The hotel had a warm feel to it, but as other individuals have pointed out, may need to be tweaked to avoid becoming "old looking" Overall it was a very pleasant stay and the staff was very nice and accommodating. Close to the museum and the historical places which was a plus.. Great antique shops in the area as well....

We enjoyed our getaway here over Valentines Day weekend. The front desk staff were very friendly and accomodating. Nice touch having tea and cookes available in the afternoon. However, the room was a bit dated and the area behind the refrigerator had not been vacuumed in a while. The bathroom was very clean. The pillows were lumpy and we had a difficult time regulating the temperature in the room. I would recommend staying here if on a budget and if you want to step back in time!

The accommodations here are always good, are convenient to all the Brandywine Valley attractions, and the rooms are reasonably priced. It's time for the management to think about replacing the loveseats in the suites as they are beginning to get a bit old looking as are the carpets. Still, this is a very good, reliable place to stay and we will continue to do so.
