We stayed at this wonderful place 2 years ago and decided to go back with another couple we are very close with and travel with frequently. Not only were we once again thoroughly delighted, our friends (who are more frequent AND wealthier travelers!) were as well. The rooms are charming and cozy (NOT small!), the fireplace a delight, the jacuzzi tub to DIE for, and the entire hotel is AMAZINGLY immaculate! The included breakfast is plentiful and the afternoon tea is a wonderful touch. And unlike other hotels that will give you free (if you're lucky) internet ACCESS, this place offers a den-like office with 2 free flat screen computers and laser printers for 24-hour use IN ADDITION to free in-room access! All the attractions are so convenient, and the wineries and restaurants are wonderful. We paid $400 a couple for 2 nights in their King Suites which included a $75 gift card for dinner AND a tour of a local winery. WELL WORTH THE MONEY! We just got home and can't wait to go back!

My girlfriend and I had just recently stayed 2 weeks ago at the Brandywine River Hotel here for a little romantic getaway and

to check out some of the popular attractions nearby.

On the surface it certainly appeared to be a pretty good price for a room with a 2 person jacquizzi, but after our experience

we thought otherwise.

The entire bathroom was extremely annoying and disappointing. We specifically asked for the jacquizzi that could fit 2

people.
Before I made a reservation, I called them up and asked them to if they have 2 person jacquizzis and they said yes. and they

can fit 2 people , but only barely( I was wondering just how small the single person jacquizzi were if the 2 person ones were

this small).
It was very difficult for both of us to enjoy it at the same time. But this is the least annoying of my problems with this

room.

This is bad advertising.this is like saying you are a romantic hotel but the rooms are only with twin beds.

Also, every single plumbing fixture in oure bathroom had at least 1 problem ( both bathub knobs were loose/stripped, the sinks

cold water knob was leaking when you rotated the knob in the shut off position .and the cold water handle in the shower was

all not up to par as well(too loose and difficult to figure out which way to turn them because it provided a nearly constant poor water pressure.)

These problems should have been found out long ago and replaced. The odds that 1 fixture becomes defective are fairly common, but ALL of them?!

The worst part was the shower. the water coming out of it was so fine and the water pressure was so poor it was very very

hard to take a shower.( for the price they were asking for these rooms you would think they could a 10 dollar shower head at

a hardware store!).My girlfriend was so annoyed with the shower we decided to just take a shower when we got back home

becuase she knew it would take her a long time to wash her hair with that weak and fine shower spray.I have very short hair

and even i had problems washing my hair

I am sure while you are reading this you are asking yourself why we didnt request around room. the answer is the only reason

we went to this hotel was becuase they had 2 person jacquizzis. And there was only a limited number of rooms( when I called

the front desk they stated that they are bigger than a bed and breakfast but smaller than a hotel-kind of in between). So

they probably didnt have any rooms available anyway and even if they did They only have a few rooms that have 2 person

jacquizzis. besides as I said, since we saw all the bathroom fixtures were defective. we figured the rooms were all the same.

While we were leaving,I mentioned every bathroom problem to the front desk. The lady at the front desk barely looked up and

she acted like our complaints were no big deal and stated and i quote" oh thats becuase it was put in that way"/
that was a real insult to our intelligence and that really made us angry. It was such a lame excuse .We were looking for an

apology and perhaps maybe a deal on a better room later.

if they want this to really be a romantic getaway, they should get larger jacquizzis, and get all new bathroom fixtures.
more care, less excuses.

i realize that there are other clean and romantic hotels that are considerably more expensive( $250 and up that have

jacquizzis) but for 170 they could have afforded a brand new 10 dollar showerhead that actually worked ok and new knobs

I have been in plenty hotels that were alot cheaper than this with all working bathroom fixtures. So what good is spending 169 dollars for a room with a jacquizzi but a shower you cant use?!

The only reason im giving this a 3 out of 10 rating is becuase the room was clean and it had pretty good beds and the room came with a good breakfast/afternoon tea and cookies deal, Otherwise the hotel would have gotten a 1 out of 10. Be forewarned.

When you hear the name Brandywine River Hotel in Chadds Ford, you imagine a nice B&B-type place. And when you first look around (except for the antisceptic smell around the check-in area), it looks like a decent-enough place. But don't be fooled by the preppy / inn-like wallpaper and the fake fireplace. When you scratch the surface, you see that it is a two-star budget hotel lightly disguised as a three-four star cozy inn.

The staff (with one pleasant exception) was a disgrace. They seemed to care only about stuffing their pie-holes with the pathetic breakfast and "tea" foods and then getting back on the internet as quickly as possible. One woman behind the desk would not make eye contact and hid in the back when she saw the front door open, for fear that someone might ask her to do something.

The room was comfortable enough, we paid more for a larger room with seating area and jacuzzi. The shower was a horror show. No water pressure and the temperature constantly jumping around. Toilet barely flushed. The bed was good.
I got the feeling that the walls were paper-thin, but fortunately we did not have neighbors.

The breakfast was basic and boring, typical of a two star place. The only thing that was done with enthusiasm was the placing of the tip jar on the buffet table.

The location of the hotel is excellent, very close to Brandywine Battlefield and Brandywine River Museum. It is a relatively short trip to other local sights, such as Longwood, Hagley, Wintherthur, etc. This is a beautiful, beautiful area, so it might allow you to generously overlook the hotel's deficiencies. But I saw a Hampton Inn being constructed down the road and a new-looking Holiday Inn Express a couple miles away. Next time, I'll try one of those. At least they don't pretend to be better than they are.

For $120-150 in this area, you should do better than this hotel.

Sweet Escape for Christmas Holiday

This is a great escape, especially around Christmas. We stay in the fireplace/jacuzzi suite each year for the holiday. The lobby is cozy and well decorated with a large Christmas Tree next to the fireplace. They offer a very nice Continental Breakfast in the small dining room & this also has a fireplace. In the late afternoon there is tea/coffee w/ cookies & cakes - yum. There are times when the front desk folks may seem a bit distant, but the rest of the stay makes up for it. It's minutes from Longwood Gardens, Simone Pearce Restaurant and one of the best second hand bookstores we've ever found Baldwin's Book Barn (5 floors of books that are very well organized)...you can spend hours browsing.

We really enjoyed our stay at this great hotel. The staff were a delight, so friendly and helpful. This is a hotel with high standards and good quality for a good price. If you are in the area - or just passing through, its worth a visit.
