“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

We stayed here two nights, taking in the nearby Longwood Gardens and Philadelphia. The hotel is well-appointed, the staff friendly, and we'd be happy to go back. The business facilities include a computer (but no printing facilities unless you email items to the hotel), and there is wired Internet in the rooms (but not WIFI for guests, so far as I could tell). Whilst they don't have a restaurant as part of the hotel, the restaurant next door - in walking distance - serves good food is and is child-friendly. My only grumble would be the walls were a bit thin between the rooms - the lady in the next room felt it appropriate to hold midnight phone conversations on speaker-phone, which were fascinating, but kept our children awake. Not really the hotel's fault, but annoying (if that was you, and you're reading this, be ashamed).

My wife and I were traveling with my brother and his wife to see some history and some Philadelphia. This was an excellent choice. The hotel was simple, but very nice. The rooms were nice, though nothing special. The continental breakfast was very convenient and never crowded. That was a real plus. The staff was extra special. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. This was very convenient to the Brandywine area which has really a lot of history to offer and to Philadelphia. We would definitly stay here again.

I am glad you chose to stay with us for your recent Philadelphia trip. It is always nice to find a place where you can easily get to the city without being in the noise and bustle of staying in the city itself, and we are proud to be one of those places. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Hotel has feel of nice country inn since it is located up a hill off the major highwayy and was removed from traffic noise (and other noise, for that matter). Stayed here for 2 nights mid-week in late July based on complimentary Trip Advisor reviews and was very pleased. Very pleasant staff, attractive and well-appointed rooms furnished with colonial revival furniture, large bathroom, free DirectTV in rooms and wi-fi for internet, too. Complimentary newspaper delivered to door each morning. Continental breakfast was delicious and offered good variety of foods, hot and cold. Very easy to get from this hotel to Brandywine River Museum, Longwood Gardens, and Winterthur. Beds very comfortable and easy control of individual room thermostat. Close to several restaurants, one of which has room service menu. Would be glad to return to this hotel when back in that area.

The hotel was nice. Very clean, comfortable, employees we interacted with were very nice. The woman who ran the front desk at night was wonderful. Cookies were a nice treat in the afternoon.

We just felt that the hotel was just a little expensive.

I had an unexpected stay traveling with my small dog and the hotel happily took us in on short notice, helped me with directions late at night and provided a room that was quiet, clean and comfortable. Stayed there again the next trip and was not disappointed. Good value and a much more relaxed atmosphere that the big chain hotels. Desk staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is OK but nothing special (but certainly no worse than most and the room is very pleasant).

I am glad that you and your pet enjoyed staying with us. We are always happy to accommodate guests with small pets. As a pet owner myself I know that it can occasionally be hard to find a pet friendly hotel, especially on short notice. We look forward to seeing you and your furry friend next time you are in the area.

Good to see that the hotel has remained as charming as ever. Better than a chain lodging. The folks at the front desk are especially helpful, and being able to walk a few steps to the top-notch Brandywine Prime restaurant and bistro is the icing on the cake.

Yes, mattresses are firm. Some guests were complaining about that at breakfast. To me and my husband, it's a positive!

Room Tip: Room 104 faces the entry, where there are two benches that draw smokers. So if you don't want to...

This is one of my favorite hotels. I especially love the fireplace/jacuzzi suites, which is where I go for something special. The double jacuzzi is in a large bathroom that has a separate shower. And I finally figured out how to work the gas fireplace. The only problem was that the room air-conditioning when we went, a very hot weekend, was a bit anemic.

Some reviewers don't like the decor, but I love it. It is very cozy and inviting, perfect for a romantic getaway. If it gets redone, I hope it stays away from "edgy" and remains traditional.

The location for visiting Longwood Gardens and other area attractions can't be beat. Keep up the good work.

Room Tip: Definitely consider splurging on the fireplace/jacuzzi room.

Thank you for bringing the air conditioning problem to our attention. We have turned the pilot lights off for the remainder of the summer so that the vents could be shut, keeping the cooler air in and our guests more comfortable. The fireplaces will be working again just as soon as the weather cools down a bit. We look forward to your next visit.
