“The best B&B that we've ever experienced.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2014

Quite objectively speaking, this is the single best B&B we've ever experienced. The rooms were outstanding; the bathrooms were perfect. Breakfast was gourmet quality. The hosts were more generous than one could possibly imagine, especially for the very reasonable cost. The building and town for that matter is very historic. We will definitely return.

I enjoyed my stay at Carlisle House very much. I was there alone for 3 nights, as I had just taken my daughter to CPYB for a 5 week ballet program. I reveled in the comfort, the hospitality and the delightful experience at Carlisle House. The breakfasts were wonderful, not only because of the tasty gourmet food, but because of the camaraderie and conversation at the breakfast table! Mary was a fountain of knowledge, with a keen interest in getting to know her clients. Her guests feel very comfortable with her, she loves to chat. Alan was very helpful and assisted me with getting to know the area well. The room was well taken care of, decorated with taste, and the bed very comfortable, particularly the bedsheets. I walked all over town, as Carlisle House is the perfect central location. The B and B is beautiful with a very historic, yet sophisticated feel. I would highly recommend Carlisle House and I am looking forward to my next stay there.

We are so pleased that you loved Carlisle and had such a nice stay here. The Central PA Youth Ballet brings us guests from all over the world, including your Canada. Yes, Carlisle is very interesting and historic and our many guests are delightful, each with a unique perspective. So glad you were able to stay a while and enjoy both our town and visitors.

What more can you ask for -- a beautiful historic home with a comfy bed, a well-appointed room, within walking distance of a vibrant downtown, AND run by friendly and knowledgeable hosts. Mary and Allan were gracious -- with just the right balance of attentiveness. They recommended some fabulous restaurants for our evening in town and the breakfast was wonderful. We were just passing through and could only stay for one night but we will definitely return!

Our son just graduated from Dickinson and we were lucky enough to find the Carlisle House for our first visit five years ago. Walking distance to the campus and a number of very good restaurants - it has a perfect location. Always comfortable and lovely with a super breakfast that deserves its own rating. Over the years we stayed at the Inn it has just gotten better and better. As a Dickinson "parents" we can share unequivocally that this is where you want to stay for every visit.

Room Tip: Over the years we have stayed in all but one of the rooms and every one of them has been a treat. A...

I will get right to the point: the Carlisle House is an exceptionally enjoyable place in which to stay! Mary and Alan have created an ambiance which is peaceful, absolutely charming, and extremely comfortable. The Carlisle House B & B is a remarkable balance between 19th century decor and style while offering a host of modern ammenities. The rooms are large/spacious; the bathrooms are modern as well as spacious, and the service is discrete and meticulous. There is free WiFi, cable TV and A/C, too. All this within a home offering an ante- as well as post-bellum charm.

Additionally, the location of the Carlisle House is perfect; it is within easy walking distance to different restaurants and historic city sites.

Lastly, and most importantly, Alan and Mary are unquestionably some of the kindest and most attentive folks I have had the good fortune to meet (no, I am not related to them). They provided me service and support as if I were a VIP or celebrity.

If you want to start your car, pull out of your parking space, and say: "That was a great place to stay; I absolutely enjoyed my time here.", then I strongly recommend the Carlisle House B & B. It's just a great place to stay.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Rose Room...very nice!

Great old building right in downtown with free parking out back. Got there late and was warmly created by the owners who offered to help with bags. Historic home, like staying at your grandmother's house. Clean, well decorated and had all the little touches you would expect from a world class B&B.

A great place to stay while visiting Dickinson.

Green Features: The Hayes room has a separate bedroom for a child. Very quiet on the back of the building.

On our recent business/pleasure trip we were fortunate to find the Carlise House B&B to be close to our area of interest. We were warmly greeted by the owners and quickly felt at home in their B&B after a very thorough tour and explanation of our room and the area. Having Mary and Alan so accessible was an added advantage for sure as they helped with restaurant recommendations and navigation assistance as well. The breakfast was outstanding with a delicious quiches, breads and fruit each day. We will definitely stay there again when in the area.
