“Nice Highway Stopping Point”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

The Country Inn & Suites is a nice low-rise hotel/motel in Carlisle, PA. The staff is well-trained, of great humor, and very courteous. The breakfast served each morning goes slightly beyond the basics. Eggs are offered daily, meats offered occasionally, and cereal and fruit is always available. Among the nice touches are that coffee, cookies and tea are available around-the-clock in the lobby. While this is not a Four Seasons or Waldorf Astoria, this hotel has comfortable beds, suitable bathroom amenities, and good-sized rooms. The cable TV offerings are unusually good, with around 120 channels. On the down side, the in-room air conditioners tend to leave the room a little humid, unless they are turned to a very cold setting; and the breakfast room, which can be cozy when the hotel is sparsely populated, can briefly become a standing room only proposition. It only holds about 30 people seated, but the hotel would appear to have around 100 rooms. If everyone shows for breakfast at the same time (which did happen one morning) it can be mildly problematic. Nonetheless, this is a good value, conveniently located for those traveling along I-81, and is a clean place to stay either while on business or while bringing the family.

Just stayed last night in this hotel. I had looked at the other hotels in the area which were booked for this night (lots going on in the area right now). I read the reviews here and when making my reservation asked for a room not facing the highway. Checkin was 3:00, we arrived at 3:30. The front desk person said they were practically full and the only room left not facing the highway was on the first floor - the floor all rooms with pets stay on - and right next to the elevator. The other room available was on the 3rd floor, but the new noise reduction windows + new air conditioner units would block out the noise. Very few complaints since those changes, she said. I took the 3rd floor room.
Mistake.
There is a vent right next to the window that lets in all the noise the new windows muffle (not remove). And the bathroom must have a vent on the roof. Every traffic noise was crystal clear, and made louder due to the bathroom tiles, etc. No getting away from the noise.
Thankfully, our next trip is booked at a different hotel.
If management is reading this, the young woamn at the front desk should be advised not to wear a white bra with black lace under a translucent white shirt. I don't think it shows the impressions the hotel wants to give.

So much for making a reservation preference.

Room Tip: Don't bother if they say no rooms available facing away from the highway.

IOur room looked out to the highway and it was the worst nights sleep we have ever had due to the traffic noice. They have an extra pane of glass that is labeled "noise reducing" that should have been the first red flag. It was awful, noisy all night long. The next moring when we mentioned it to the desk clerk she told us no one complains, only us have ever complained about the noise. A terrible response to a customer service complaint. And it seems the walls are made of the thinnest material becuase we heard every noise for the rooms on each side of us and when the person above us showered it sounds like it was IN our room. I dont care how pretty a room is decorated, this place is just cheap and poorly built.

Also, the bathroom is a nightmare. You can close the door when youre on the toilet! And you cant get out of the shower if the door is open, while your spouse uses the sink. And two ppl cant be in the bathroom at the same time because the door is in the way of everything. A perfect place for a door that opened outward if they gave any thought to customer comfort.

We will never stay here again and we travel to this city each year so they have lost repeat business!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face the highway.

Very clean, nice hotel Had a room facing the entrance (not the highway) - which was quiet.
Great breakfast selection, always snacks available in the lobby.
Staff was friendly.

The gym was small and unfortunately overrun by kids that came straight out of the pool. The complain is more referring to the parents who let the kids go wild than the hotel staff.
Obviously the pool was out of question as well.
So yes, bring your kids.

Room Tip: ask for room away from highway

The hotel was nice, very clean rooms that were big. Breakfast in the morning was great. Major negative was the sound from the freeway. It is literally right outside the window and you can hear the cars and trucks all night long. I highly recommend bringing a nature sound sleep system or something to block the noise at night~maybe two pairs of earplugs! Otherwise, we had a nice stay.

Room Tip: ask for the parking lot side of the building to try to block some of the noise.

Dear Guest,
I apologize for the concerns you have about your experience on the highway noise during your stay here as our guest. However, please note that within the next two months we will implement towards the highway side of the hotel a noise reduction project involving replacement of 33 AC Units with quieter split AC Units and installing 42 windows inside existing windows and it is then expected that the highway noise transmission to the room will be reduced appreciably, resulting in sound sleep for our guests. I want to thank you for taking the time to review our hotel, it is only through reviews like yours that we can make changes to our hotel to better serve our guests. We thank you for choosing the Country Inn and Suites Carlisle for your recent lodging needs and look forward to seeing you in the future!
Yours in hospitality,
Jessica Miller, Director of Sales and Marketing

I have stayed at several Country Inn and Suites and have been very satisfied. This time was an exception. It was extremely LOUD in our room, primarily from highway truck traffic RIGHT outside our room. In addition, the heat kicking in and those at the proximate ice machine were also noisy. Admittedly, we probably had the worst room in the whole hotel - 1st floor just off lobby and on the highway side (#109 - avoid it!). I can't imagine it was any quieter in any other room on this side of the building, though. In addition to the noise, two of the lights in the room were not working, which led to a bit of fumbling when entering the room at night.

Included breakfast was good. The bed was comfortable and the facility is pleasant and clean.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the quiet/non-highway side of the building

We were very happy with our stay here. On check in, the receptionist, un asked, changed the computer generated room number to one on the quiet side of the hotel. We were given a Welcome goody bagand . After driving 500 miles, we loved the hot tub. The Inn is only 3 years old so everything is still shiny and new. the room and bathroom was spacious, lots of counter space in the bathroom. We very much enjoyed breakfast, hot egg and sausage(him), granola, fruit and yoghurt (me) It's about a mile from the highway to the Inn but we found it well worth the trip. Check out the hotel discount coupons as using one of those made our stay pretty reasonable

Room Tip: Quiet side of the hotel away from the highway
