I visit the Allentown area on business a couple times a year and this has become my hotel of choice when I visit the area. There are two Hilton Garden Inns in the same general vicinity - this one in Breinisville and another much closer to Allentown Airport. The one near the airport is obviously more convenient if you need the complementary airport shuttle, but this one is a bit better equipped in terms of nearby restaurants.
First off, this is a very typical Garden Inn. If you've stayed in a few of them you know that they're all very much alike. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and spacious. If you get a room with a king bed you can adjust the firmness to your liking, but you have to specifically request that type of room when making your reservation. The queen rooms don't have that amenity but the beds are still comfortable enough.
The one complaint I had about my room was the air conditioning unit. The working desk was right next to the window air conditioner. When I checked into my room the thermostat was set to 66 degrees, which felt good in there considering it was a 90-plus degree day. However, when I came back from dinner it was rather chilly in there. I turned the thermostat up to 72 and started doing some work at the desk, but then the heater kicked on and started blasting hot air, making it a little uncomfortable to sit next to. I turned the thermostat down a couple degrees but then it started blasting cold air again. There did not seem to be a setting where it just stopped doing anything at all - it was either too hot or too cold. This is something I hope the staff can look into.
As with all Garden Inns they offer a hot breakfast, but it's not free unless you're a HHonors Gold member. Even then it's not expensive - around $10 - and it includes made to order hot items like pancakes and omelets. Definitely not a bad breakfast for the money. You might be able to do a little better at the diner across the street, but the hotel cafe works just fine if youi're a bit pressed for time in the morning.
There are a few restaurants within walking distance, and the Italian restaurant right across the parking lot offers a 10% discount if you show them your room key.
I will most definitely stay in this hotel again the next time I visit the Allentown area.
Get the king room so you can enjoy the adjustable firmness beds.
