“A Friendly , Cozy Country Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2007

Judy, who was the hostess at the time, was wonderful and friendly. We arrived after hours on a Sunday late afternoon and our room was ready for us. Our room was simply decorated yet very well appointed with a very comfortable pillow top queen- size bed, nice new furniture, bottled water in the room, microwave and single serve coffee maker. The breakfast served in the common area, was simple but very good. Plenty of home baked bread, juices, cereals, fruit, and yogurts. Just enough to get your day started. You can't beat the reasonable price, friendly staff, and clean rooms! This is one of the best kept secrets in Lancaster!

  • Liked — Reasonable price, nice accommodations, very clean and new.
  • Disliked — I prefer a 4 cup coffee maker as opposed to a single serve.

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel based on the review here at Trip Advisor. We had stayed at the Amish View several times, but it was just too expensive (and there are lots of other things to spend your money on in the area!). For the price of 1 night at the Amish View, we stayed 3 nights at the Orchard Inn.

The motel is a typical, single story roadside motel. The property dates to the 1970s, though some updates were made recently. However, despite these updates, the 1970s construction is still fairly evident.

The Cons . . .
- The main room was remodeled, but the "dressing area" and bathroom retained their stained drop ceilings (and rusting grids).
- The vanity was typical 1970s white with gold specks.
- If you are late to rise, you may want to wait to shower. On two mornings I tried showering after 8:30, but there was no hot water. At night, the water was hot, but don't expect a "steaming hot" shower.
- Continental breakfast is served, but you have to be an early riser or it goes quickly, as we never saw more than a couple pieces of fruit and coffee remaining.
- We must have been the first to turn the air conditioner (a window unit in the wall) on for the season. We turned it on and it smelled like mildew.
- Avoid rooms in the corner . . . I was surprized there were even rooms there as the 1970s ice machine is just outside one door and the other is down a cave like passage.
- No pictures on the walls or any decoration whatsoever . . . just huge blank white walls.
- Rates are about $80 per night. Motels (some newer national chains) on Route 30 (a busy business route) were advertising $39. A quiet location has its price, but if you don't care about the location, the extra $40 a night may not be worth it to you.
- Only 8 television channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, Weather Channel, Fox News, Cartoon Network, History Channel, Discovery Channel). You may not care . . . until you find out that most businesses close down in this area at 8 or 9pm. The Amish-owned shops are not open at all on Sunday and most close at sunset.

Pros . . .
- Wonderful location - About 1/2 mile from Route 340, set on a hill amidst apple orchards. The road is very quiet. Intercourse, Lancaster, Strasburg, Route 30, Paradise, and downtown Bird-in-Hand are less than 10 minutes away.
- Friendly staff
- VERY comfortable pillow top bed.
- Nice oak furniture.
- Quiet rooms. We never heard noise from the other rooms.
- Again, Wonderful Location!

Would we stay there again? Probably not, given the number of other equally priced lodging choices in the area. We have already made reservations at a bed and breakfast for our next trip in the Fall. It is a more secluded location and the same price as the Orchard Inn.

i was debating on giving a review of this wonderful little motel only because if word gets out no one will be able to get a reservation!!!!. we have been coming to lancaster county for more years than i can remember and have not tried this motel until now < what a mistake!!!! > this property sits on a peaceful country road situated among farms and orchards. The 15 rooms are all new and updated. The new pillow topped beds are so comfortable that you wont want to get out of bed in the morning.
the bathrooms are clean, and shower was great. We enjoyed sitting on the front patio which has table , chairs and rockers, as we gazed at the beautiful rolling farmlands which this area is known for. As for the staff at the orchard inn, I can only tell you how nice they all are. Anything you need just ask. Judy who is the manager is so sweet. If in the lancaster area you must try the orchard inn. Sit back relax and enjoy this little piece of heaven!!!!

The Orchard Inn on S. Harvest Road has only 12 rooms so it may be difficult to get a room in the high season. We were there in June and found it to be comfortable, spotless and on a quiet road and set in an apple orchard, yet only a few miles from everything. The continental breakfast is "just right". The room rate is average for the area but in our opinion it's above average in terms of value.
