Owner description: NMAC is the only full-time, year-round, independent institution devoted to the display, preservation and study of (antique) American woven coverlets. The Museum is open seven days a week. Each visitor is given a personal tour.Currently, the (400-plus) collection includes coverlets made between 1771 and 1889. Exhibitions change periodically. Generally there are about 50 coverlets on display along with "period" beds and bedding, and spinning and weaving equipment including looms and a (rare) Jacquard head. We are located in a former Common School building (dating to 1859) in the historic district of downtown Bedford, PA.

“Really neat place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

We spent about an hour in the Coverlet Museum. It is a small museum but packed with beautiful american made coverlets. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgable about the coverlets and answered all of our questions. I would definately go again to see what else they add in future.

“Fascinating & Informative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

I know--it doesn't sound very interesting, but when my friend dragged me there I quickly changed my mind. The highlight of this museum is the elderly owner/curator who "wove" his narrative of 30 years in American history around stories of the weavers, their equipment, designs & life styles. The museum has an extensive collection that rotates every few months. It also offers reproduction items, books & fabric for quilting. If you are in this area, take the time to visit this unique museum. And if you are a fiber fanatic or weaver, this is a destination in itself.

“A treasure!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2011

We found this place through signage and have always tried to stop when we are in Bedford. The history and museum displays are fascinating. Even the old school building they are located in is interesting. Be sure to meet Lazlo when you are there. He is a gem!
