“Bar at Howard Johnsons”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

we were staying at the hotel and decided to go down to the bar for a drink. We had planned on meeting a couple of friends. The bartender should not have been behind the bar. He spent all of his time texting. He was very rude and argumentive. We weren't looking for someone to entertain us but we did expect someone who had a personality at least. We decided to leave after he decided to close before the 10pm time we were told and allowed his friends to smoke inside the bar. We called our friends and decided to go elsewhere. Couldn't believe how a BAD bartender can ruin you night. The hotel was ok but we won't be back. Too many other choices.

Room Tip: I never complain. I usually just don't go back, but this just ruined our stay.

We recently stayed at HoJo's. The staff were friendly. After reading several reviews, we were hesitant in staying there but we did not have all of the problems that other reviewers did.
However, we were disappointed that they didn't have a continental breakfast, tea bags in the room with the coffee makers, or a larger TV.

It's definitely not a 4-Star hotel, but it's clean, convenient to Rt 80 and has a restaurant onsite. I prefer the second floor rooms to the first floor rooms, but note that they do NOT have an elevator so you have to carry your luggage up stairs.

Room Tip: Be sure to chain your door, room service arrives VERY early and had a small boy in tow. It was quit...

My friend and I stayed here for one night in October, too tired to drive home after a day of shopping at the nearby outlets. Good rates, half the price of the Hampton Inn a few miles up the road. But, jeez, was the room old.

As soon as I stepped in, it smelled musty. Then I noticed the cracks in the tub, the faucet looked like it was going to fall off, and the towel bar actually did fall off! The doors and walls were also paper thin that I heard what was going on in the hallway as well as the kids screaming in the next room. There was no temperature control and the room was on the cool side.

I will only stay here again in a pinch.

They say people make the ambiance of a party, and it is so. However to have a perfect party you must a couple of ingredients, such as guests and venue. The staff here went out of their way to make certain my daughter's wedding went accordingly without missing a step. My sincere gratitude to the manager and staff that worked the wedding for accomplishing such a perfect task. I also had the opportunity to stay overnight and I was quite surprised by the comfort of the bed and pillows and hotel amenities!!!! From one who stayed at the Hyatt, Hilton and Waldorf, this was absolutely delightful. I am looking forward to bringing my business partners here for our meetings. I highly recommend this venue. Lovely and professional staff and venue is so convenient, just a turn from a major interstate and local routes. KUDOS and thank you!

Room Tip: Much comfortable bed and pillows! Had King Size.

We stayed at the HJ from Thurs- Sun. It was a very standard room at best! It was a little old and dingy; but you dont expect 4 stars from a howard johnson. It was advertised as having a heated pool...NOT QUITE... theres a pretty nice pool, but it was cold. Its because they have a HUGE room, blow heater in the corner heating up the room, but not the water. So it makes the water feel cold, because your all toasty before you get in. other than that the pool wasnt on, so if you have a weak immune system, or your susceptible to germs and diseases dont get in, cause you might catch something. Across the street theres a texas longhorn and a red robins, which we went to. didnt try the restaurant on site. found comptons pancake house a few exits away who has a 3.69 meal (2 pancakes, 2 links, 2 bacon, homefries, and toast) we had two adjoining rooms, so we had a blast. went to the sunset shooting range also, lots of fun!

We " RAN AWAY" from Shawnee resort in East Stroudsburg , We intended to stay at the other aforementioned place. We got a " Smoking Room" on the ground floor. Although they only had two separate beds, We took the room and quickly moved in and FROM THE BEAUTIFUL LOBBY, And the very neatly dressed folks at the front desk, We had breakfast at the " Serengetti restaurant" we came in 10 minutes before they closed but we were NOT turned away we were quickly sat down and just as fast served breakfast By What I think was the friendliest Server IN Pennsylvania. My wife and I got up and traveled the Antique shops in Pocono, All the different shops. We made a trip to a local restaurant called " La Familia Chuchifrito" for Puerto Rican styled food. We got stuffed for under 25 dollars! Across the street from the hotel is a " Texas Longhorn" chain styled Restaurant and it was full, a long line to get in BUT well worth the wait. Service,Food and the Worlds best " watermelon Margaritas" 2 t~ Boned steaks, Loaded mashed " tators", Salad. The super friendly Local folks bought my wife and I a few drinks and we reciprocated and we drank and had a " Blast " The best part of it was we DIDN'T HAVE TO DRIVE! We walked across the street to the lobby and back to our rooms! We walked back to our Freshly vac'd room, fresh towels, Dusted tables and all the ash trays Nice and clean! No this place Is Far from a 4 Star hotel, But it is not a Pay by the hour" style place. We stayed 3 great nights and down the road 1/4 mile is a " Giant " supermarket where you can pick up muchies, candy by the pound, At super reasonable prices. On our Next trip to P.A WE WILL MAKE IT A POINT TO STAY HERE! except in a Non- Smoking room.
