“Great Affordable Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2007

A great deal for the price. The view is incredible, the rooms are clean. The decor is dated but when the view is so wonderful who cares.

The location of the Fireside is just wonderful. It faces a bluff above the ocean. There is beach, rocks, pools, plants, everything coastal to enjoy and all accessible by a meandering ocean-walk path created in the 70's by locals who were afraid of losing access to the coast through development. The walk is now a state protected feature. All the oceanview rooms of the Fireside have a great view and deck. There are other hotels on either side of the property and some private homes, but they layout is spacious enough that it doesn't feel crowded. The Fireside itself was clean, good size with all the amenities, including a small fridge. With just a little redecorating, this could be an absolutely fabulous property. The room was tired and very average in decor. In any event, in Sept the rates were reasonable and again, location, location, location. Yachats itself has restaurants in many price ranges. Newport is just north of Yachats and it's Old Town offers a wealth of galleries, restaurants and shops. When wereturn to the Oregon coast, we're planning on staying at this location in Yachats and day-trip to Newport.

We stayed over this past weekend because of the stormy weather and high tides. It is as pictured. Simply beautiful. Some rooms have fireplaces, but all have ocean views. Great cliff walking path (804), friendly and efficient service. Setting is on the tidepools/small cliff, and behind is a nice manicured wooded forest and lawns. Very inviting. Great location for attractions. Will definite stay again!

  • Liked — Location. The bed was facing towards the ocean and you could prop yourself up and just watch it.
  • Disliked — No continental breakfast that we were aware of.

If I make it back to Oregon I will definitely visit Fireside again. The motel was clean, resonably priced, and in a great location. We had a blast walking on and exploring the massive volcanic rocks. The tide pools were full of interesting sea creatures to observe. My only regret was not having enough time to stay longer.

We stayed for 1 night and were able to get 2 rooms without reservations. We did not get to choose rooms with a view as they were all booked for the night & we felt lucky to be able to get 2 rooms at all on short notice. The rooms were very adequate and clean for the price. Both were on the 2nd floor. The location of this place is what makes it so desirable. We had a blast looking in the tide pools at the sea stars and other marine life. What a cool experience. Would stay again in a heartbeat. Thought it was a fair value with great scenery.

We stayed here only one night, wished we had booked a few more. We stayed in an ocean view fireplace unit, and it was nice. Clean, comfortable and great view of ocean. There is a trail along beach right in front of hotel. If you walk far enough north you come to a beautiful sandy beach that you can walk a long way on. We found a few agates on this beach. Went to eat at adobe next door, it was just okay. The hotel clerk recomended The drift Inn one mile south, we drove down there and there was a line of people out the door. Would have liked to try it as the menu sounded good.

OMG! This room is gross. Pubic hair in the bed, blanket that looks like something they use for a dog kennel, yellow stains (don't make me go there)! We are stuck here for the PM because everywhere else is sold out. My hubby went to the market to get lysol whipes...we don't dare ask for housekeeping they might make it worse. Sorry to post this because the location is beautiful and gift shop/front office pleasant. Make sure to plan ahead when visiting the OR coast during peak season. I am not a picky person and can even handle chemical toilets at state parks, but 90 bucks for this dump I would rather be camping next to a chemical toilet.
