I stayed at the Super 8 in Woodburn since the other two properties in the area carried mediocre reviews, and the Super 8 had considerably lower pricing.
The check-in procedure was fairly long since a large group of car club folks were in line ahead of me; the Woodburn Drag Strip is just across the freeway and had a big Ford event this weekend. This is NOT the hotel's fault, of course. Once I'd worked through the long line, the clerk was friendly and personable and dealt well with the crush of people.
My room was on the second floor, easily accessed with either a fairly quick elevator or easy-to-use stairs. The room was spotlessly clean and well-equipped. Free HBO is included, and HBO was showing "Bull Durham", one of my all-time favorites. I was in a handicapped-accessible room (since the hotel was quite busy this weekend) which offers a much-larger than usual bathroom for accessability reasons. The only drawback here is that these rooms included doorbells with flashing lights for the hearing-impaired. Young kids running up and down the halls were having a great time ringing these bells as they thundered past, screaming and pounding on doors. This is not Super 8's fault of course...just a note to parents: Your children are YOUR responsibility! If you're not willing to keep them in check, then someday, somewhere, they're going to rub somebody the wrong way and get you dragged into court! Just a reminder.
Continental breakfast is included, but unimpressive: Coffee, juice and cellophane-wrapped muffins. There's a McDonald's next door, but I highly recommend the Country Cottage restaurant just beyond the Taco Bell. Amazingly delicious food, all made from scratch, and locally owned. No coroporate plastic tackiness here. If corporate plastic is your style, the neighborhood has McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, Taco Bell, KFC, Dairy Queen, Jack-in-the-Box, Arby's, and probably several others. Take my advice: Country Cottage is the ONLY choice here!
I will definitely return to Super 8. I've stayed at the Best Western in Woodburn...the Super 8 is a much better place for a lot less money.
