My uncle helped found this Safari Park. It is a better zoo. The animals have the run of the place not the humans. The volunteers make it work as it is very expensive to care for the animals. Endangered species are being helped here too.

“Absolutely fantastic for the kids.”

Great place to go with children. We had our car washed by an elephant too which they just loved. Must walk through the inside area as well.

“Well done and maintained”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

There seems to be a number of drive-through animal parks in the Northwest and this is one of the best in my opinion. The areas are broken into terrains similar to the lands of Africa, Americas and Asia. With the exception of the bears, lions and a few others the animals roam free, making for a real chance of up close and personal situations. We had a male Rhea decide he wanted to stick his beak into our car and we had to wait until he decided it was a lost cause. With a low throated frustrated grunt off he went.

Bison, Elk and other groupie animals can sometimes create a road jam but that's part of the fun. Get there early in the morning or around feeding times when the animals are most active (and less pressured by fellow drivers for stopping too long). This place is well known for its ability to breed and increase the small population of Cheetahs and has seen over 160 births. One is often housed in a large area with a friendly companion in a large golden retriever

There is also a Village walking area where small unusual animals can be seen up close. It has a petting zoo and a fully stocked gift shop where my wife shops for an embroidered or animal-decorated t-shirt or three to wear in gym workouts and walks.

Always fun for kids and animal lovers...

“Great sanctuary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

We just went through the Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon. It was my first time visiting and we had an outstanding experience. What a neat drive-through safari. You actually drive your own vehicle through and it takes about an hour to an hour and a half. It was an overcast, rainy day, but the animals were out and active. We got some great photos. Thank goodness for the vision of the person who started this preserve back in the early 70's. It is a non-profit organization and relies on gate admissions and donations. Don't be put off by the entrance fee; it is well worth it! I would love to bring my 5th graders here on a field trip.

“I nice experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

The animals at this exhibit appear to be well cared for and in fairly natural settings. While I hate to see any animal in captivity, this facility is to be praised for their cheetah breeding program. A great learning experience for children!
