To me the ambience felt low. And I felt that the menu prices were to high when compared to other coastal restaurants we had recently eaten at.
The "Sea Shack" is located on the Oregon coast in a small town directly on the "Nehalem Bay", name "Wheeler". Wheeler is a few miles north of the town "Rockaway Beach" and south of the small town of "Nehalem", Oregon. As you are driving north on US 101 through Wheeler, you will find the "Sea Shack" on your left across the railroad tracks and directly on the water. Just prior to getting there you will pass a train depot, public rest room, Public Park and the public boat ramp. The boat ramp being directly besides the restaurant.
We had driven past here and seen the "Sea Shack" a number of times. Thinking it had a great location directly on the water and wanted to eat here.
We ate here on a beautiful warm February weekday at about Noon, in 2005.
We entered the restaurant to an empty reception area with the menu lying on top of the reception table. No personnel around. We were greeted with the strong smell of the bathrooms, which were only a short distance away from the entrance and used by both the bar and eating section. Looking over to the left we could see through glass windows placed into a wall separating the eating section from the bar. Every person here, except for us was in the bar, not the restaurant section. It seemed like the bar was large and maybe close to the size of the eating area.
There was only one person working the entire bar and eating section. They were working hard and moving as fast as they could, but it was a lot of area to cover.
We sat at a window table, looking directly out onto the bay. Just outside the windows is a dock with tables on it. The view is very nice, and what a wonderful place to sit out on the docks in the warm weather. Also it appears that you can pull your boat up to a dock at this restaurant. So for boaters this may be a very nice and easy place to dock and eat or have a drink.
The ambience of the eating section was that typical of an older coastal building and showing its age. Furnishings were sparse.
The menu is heavy with seafood and hamburgers. I felt that the seafood prices were much too high when compared to other coastal restaurants we had recently eaten at. I would say the food is ok, but for me, nothing spectacular.
For me, I felt that the "Sea Shack" lacked ambience, it felt as though in an old building, with the food being just ok. This lowing my entertainment experience. I doubt if I return to eat here again.
Again the good points are the view; dock, boat launch, and park directly besides it.............Enjoy!
