“Great stop just past Manzanita”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

We stopped just outside Manzanita for the night. This is away from the ocean but has a beautiful view of the bay. The room is nothing special but clean and comfy. The owners are on the property to greet you so it is not your typical roadside hotel. Pat will offer you breakfast to keep in your room over night and a movie. He is a great host. Kayaks are available right from the dock. We did not make use of them but it looks like a great spot for a morning paddle.

We stayed in Wheeler Lodge on 9/27/13. It was a great experience. The owners were so friendly and helpful, and the rooms reflect their pride in their lodge. We stayed in the Great Blue Heron room, and it had everything we could have needed for a much longer stay. We loved having a table with chairs at which to eat, and the room was stocked with kitchenware. We had a little deck area that would have been lovely had the weather been better. DVDs were available for free as was complimentary candy and breakfast items. Unfortunately the driving rain didn't allow for more exploration, but we would definitely recommend this lodge as a home base and hope we can get back some day.

We headed to the coast to hook up with friends at their RV camp, no reservations or idea of where we would stay, they said Wheeler was the closest town, I had been thru there several times, never noticed this place but we went and checked it out. It was so cute and the rooms were very clean, the owner's were so friendly and informative. It would be the greatest place to stay if you wanted to go fishing and crabbing, we did not and still enjoyed the stay. Weather did not cooperate, which is usual for the Oregon coast, but they had movie rentals and free popcorn, our room had a cozy fireplace, we were all set. Bed was the most comfortable I have had in a motel room, my only comment on that is the sheets were pilly and if that is the only complaint why complain right!!
I would recommend this place even for just a nites stop to enjoy the small town, a wonderful antique store and good restraunt 's

This was our first stay at Wheeler Lodge and we loved It here! Pat has put a lot of thought into this place and was very hospitable ! A very central location for visiting sites on the north coast. The large jetted tub felt so good on our last night on the chilly, but beautiful Oregon coast. We stayed in the Ebb Tide room and it was decorated very tastefully and extremely clean and cozy. They provide popcorn, movies and breakfast, and dinner recommendations. This more like a B&B than a motel. We will be back!

Room Tip: Stayed in the Ebb Tide Room and it was great. Jetted tub felt great on the chilly Oregon coast.

This was our 3rd summer at Wheeler Lodge and we love this place! Pat and Tracy are very hospitable and great hosts. You get a lot of extras and bang for your back here too.For 2 or more night's stay, you get free kayaking. You can salmon fish here too and rent crab pots very cheap. The ocean beaches are just a few miles away and there is a lot to see and do. It is quiet, peaceful and uncrowded here at after a full day of exploring and toodling around elsewhere, where it tends to be busier and much more crowded.

From Wheeler lodge, Seaside is less than 25 miles north and Tillamook is also just under 25 miles to the south. We stayed for a week in August of this year (2013) and went to the beaches nearly every day including Cannon Beach, Seaside, Hug Point, Arcadia, Manzanita and a few others. We also went kayaking twice, went hiking, saw a couple of trains, visited the cheese factory, tried numerous restaurants, had several BBQ's, went shopping and visited several places.

Another thing we like is that the room has a fridge and microwave. Additionally, there are BBQ hibachi's that you can use to have a BBQ. Our room included coffee, tea, candies and the foods and beverages offered as part of the stay are all a nice added touch. We can do this trip fairly economically without feeling like we are making a compromise. About half of our dinner meals were BBQ's at the Lodge where we had bought fresh meat and produce from the local IGA store in Manzanita.

If you like to stay at B&B's, this place is definitely for you. Even if you usually stay at motels, this place will pleasantly surprise you and is much better than a motel experience. The price is just right and it is a very comfortable stay that doesn't break the bank for a week's stay.

-Robert

We recently stayed at Wheeler on the Bay Lodge with our two teenage sons for four nights. Mom and Dad stayed in the Honeymoon Suite, and the boys had their own room a few doors down. Both rooms were spotless, and the beds were very comfortable. The H.S. has an enormous deck overlooking the estuary/river, with very nice rocking adirondack chairs, chaise lounges and a nice table for four with chairs for eating or playing games. (We had a blast playing pinochle and watching the boats go by.) The interior of the room is nicely appointed, with lots of thoughtful touches, such as every tea imaginable, nice coffee and creamer, little bags of candy and popcorn. Even though it was fairly warm, we tried out the jacuzzi tub, and it was very relaxing. We did not use the fireplace, but plan to return in the winter and will give it a spin then. The owners were very friendly and accommodating, taking the time to acquaint us with our rooms, provide us with little breakfast items and make sure we had DVDs (a huge, current library - and they are provided free) . They obviously take great pride in their lodge, as everything is meticulously cared for, down to and including the beautiful potted flowers and plants, trimmed to perfection. A huge bonus staying here was the free use of kayaks for all of us. We had a blast exploring the marshes and river - saw many herons, river otters and fish. It was the perfect combination of clean, comfortable surroundings, and being right there with nature. Oh, yes: the beach town of Manzanita is a five-minute drive away, making for a great afternoon field trip. We loved it - and will be back!

Room Tip: The Honeyroom Suite was perfect in every way.

We absolutely loved our stay! We had a gorgeous view from the Sunset Room, clean and comfortable furnishings, relaxing private deck, cozy little fireplace. Pat and Tracy are friendly, knowledgeable, and so hospitable. They clearly care about the comfort of their guests, from the little amenities like popcorn for your movie from their library to the amazing free kayaking on the Nehalem River. Would recommend to anyone, and would love to return ourselves.
