“Not so HOT Springs.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

We have made many trips to Kah-nee-ta over the past 50 years, this time we were in the RV area, which is very nice. My main issue was with the pool. What really draws most people including us to this place is the wonderful warm mineral water in the lower pool. When we go to a hot springs we expect warm water. To our dismay the water was cool, no different than any other pool. Unfortunately, the Adult hot tub was usually very crowded, often with children. The whole pool area seemed not as well cared for as usual, with leaves and trash. Overall this was a disappointing trip, and did not make us eager to return. Sadly this has been one of my favorite places to go but is no longer.

We love hearing from our loyal customers, Barbara. I'm very glad that you've been coming to us for so many years, but very disappointed to hear that your last experience was not your best. Customer feedback is very important to me, so I will definitely speak with the pool staff about keeping the accommodations clean and comfortable. Thank you for the review and I hope you'll give us another chance in the future.

Till then,

2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

It was with great anticipation that my 5 girl friends and I booked the Neesha Cottage, back in April of 2013, for a weekend getaway the second weekend of September.

A few days before arriving I was checking their website for what was included in our cottage and saw a note saying that their pool was closed. I was absolutely floored since the main point of going to Kah-Nee-Ta was to lay around the pool with drinks in hand, with no responsibilities. We were assured that even though the main hot springs pool across from our cottage was closed, that the lodge pool (that we had to take a shuttle to) would be open. We we pretty upset at this but continued on with our plans.

I think I can sum up the entire stay with this sentence " This place has a lot of potential but obviously has gone down hill". This place is not a "resort" it is a hotel/motel in a very pretty setting with no attention to detail whatsoever.

We were able to check in early and they did give us a discount for the pool being closed. It should be noted that we watched and heard from several guests who came a long ways with kids to find out that the main pool was closed (the hot springs pool with slides and the reason most people come here). They were not happy and the manager seemed very apathetic. Why would they close the main pool the second week in September when the weather is still 100 degrees??

The lodge pool wasnt real big and got crowded very quickly with only one pool on the property. There was no drink or food service at the pool, there were broken lights from the pool sitting on the pool deck, the dirty towel bin was not emptied the entire weekend we were there, and everything just seemed neglected and ran down. The hot tub had used band-aids and a fork sitting on the ledge. It has broken tiles and dirt encrusted everywhere. The view would be great had the windows not been so dirty that you could barely see out of the wind glass. We did see a wild horse a few feet from the hot tub so that was cool.

One night we got dressed up and came up to the bar to listen and dance to the live band. There were kids on the dance floor and running around (at 9:30 at night) . It really killed our vibe. The kids were sliding across the dance floor and the lighting was all the way on. It was like a wedding reception or a club for kids with parents chaperoning. We stayed for 30 minutes and left disappointed. It is crazy to me that they allow children to be there after 9. I understand having dinner and leaving but to to bring your children and to have management allow them to stay was a real buzz kill.

The drinks were great as was the fry bread.

Almost every staff member we encountered was nice.

The shuttle took about 30 minutes to pick you up and did not have air conditioning. It was a miserable 5 min ride to and from the main hotel from our cottage.

The store, putt putt golf, and kayak rental was closed the entire weekend with no explanation. If I would have had my kids with me, i would have been furious to come all that way to have 90 percent of the resort shut down with out any warning or compensation.

There was no store to pick up sundries. The food is very expensive in the main restaurant but ok in the grill (think a little above Red Robin prices).

Our key didnt work to get in anywhere but our room so we had to ask for employees or other guests to let us into the ice room and hot tub area.

Our cottage was also worn and dirty. We had to ask to have the maid come change our sheets as they were obviously dirty with pieces of hair all over the sheets. The carpet had rips and long strings hanging from it and was dirty. There were numerous dead bugs in the light fixtures above the kitchen and there were lightbulbs burnt out.

We had some many gnats in our room we could barely eat without waving our hands around frantically to get them off us and our food.

We had a great time despite the hotel - because, well, we were away from home and together and we would have fun in a broom closet.

Even with a discount our cottage was expensive and definitely not worth the money.

Would we come back? Probably not. This place has a lot of work to do to call itself a resort. It has so much potential, it is sad that they have let it go to such a sad state. We will head to Sun River or Lake Chelan next year.

I'm glad that you enjoyed your trip, but disappointed that you found our accommodations lacking. We're currently in a transitional phase and have been working to upgrade our accommodations. However, the fires this summer have really set us behind schedule. Thank you for the feedback and we will be working hard to improve.

Visited Kah-Nee-Ta resort for 2 nights with family whilst visiting from the England we stayed in the main hotel. The drive to the hotel through the reservation was beautiful and scenery really did take your breath away and seeing the wild horses in the natural enviroment was magnificent.
We stayed at the hotel 6-8/8/13, it was very quiet on check-in and we had no problems with reception staff, they were very friendly and accomodating.
We had a queen room, the room itself was a good size for 3 adults with a balcony which looked over the reservation and got the sun on an afternoon. The rooms themselves were clean but looked a littel tired as did the balcony, a lick of paint and a new carpet wouldn't go a miss.
Pool area was clean but a little unorganised, when stopping in hotels before, you arrive at the pool on a morning to find loungers/chairs nicely placed however it seems this is not the case here, but again nothing that bothered us to much, it was quite a quiet weekend as the school term had just began.
We ate breakfast in the restaurant, which was waiter servcie not the buffet, one of my party was expecting, food was nice enough but for so few people we did have a little wait, but again we were in no hurry so weren't to bothered and the lady who waited on us was very polit and courteous. On an evening we ate in the Grill which i beleieve used to be the casino, again food was ok nothing to rave about, however the cocktails are a must they were really tasty and the food wasn't to spendy.
Whilst there we visited the museum in warm springs, very interesting and if you get a chance go see it.
In general we all enjoyed our stay and would definately return, however a lick of paint and new carpets in the main hotel rooms, wouldn't go a miss. We couldn't comment on the room service or spa as we didn't use these facilities.

We live a hour drive to this Oregon desert resort owned by the Warm Springs Indian Reservation. We have visited many times and the experience is always good. There is the main lodge and pool and a much larger spring fed pool and additional lodging consisting of teepee's, hotel rooms and an RV park. We have always stayed at the upper or main lodge. We usually visit in May/June and September/October. Many changes have occurred in recent months, some due to wild fire/kitchen fire and moving the casino to a new facility on Hwy 26 10 miles from the lodge. We go the the peaceful atmosphere and nice pool time. Unless you like kids, do not go in the summer, the weather is nice on the shoulder seasons and the pools heated. Bring your favorite float and enjoy your self. This is not a 5 star resort and never claims to be, we were recently told the rooms are to be updated this winter so look for that in the spring I know we will.

I'm very sorry to hear that you didn't find out that the pool was closed before you drove all the way down from Washington! We do have another pool, but I can understand how you would be disappointed to not have the chance to use our slides. In the future, I will make sure that any maintenance is updated on the website. Thank you for your feedback and I hope you'll give us another chance in the future.

We have traditionally come to this resort with our family for many years. We skipped the past 5 due to circumstances and then came last year during Labor Day weekend. We were sad to see dirty old carpet, peeling off wallpaper and and old lounge chairs.
The pool and weather were fantastic and the salmon bake was wonderful so we decided to come back again this year as a last summer vacation.
I have to say the front desk girl was wonderful and I felt good checking in. As we walked around we saw sadly that the pool bar is gone and they now have a restaurant way on the other end of the hotel. The rooms are even more run down and we have bugs on the floor both dead and alive, fruit flies flying around and I just found a bug on my sons pillow. We are going to ask to change rooms tomorrow. So disheartening to see such a great resort so run down. Please spend some money and fix this place up. It is so peaceful here and it is such a shame to see it in such bad shape

It's great to hear that you've been visiting us for many years, but disappointing to hear that your last visit with us was sub-par, Lisa. We've been working hard to fix up many portions of our resort, but haven't made as much progress as we'd like. Thank you for taking the time to give us some feedback and I hope you'll come visit us again next year.

We usually check tripadvisor before we go, but made last minute changes to our plans so we stopped at Kah Nee Ta "resort" on our way to go camping in southeastern Oregon. Wish we had checked. We both recalled trips here in the past so we thought it was a good bet.
There is no service here... Went to the bar and despite 9 employees no one would help us, or even look us in the eye... They were open, about 5 other customers in the bar, with drinks. We waited 10 minutes, no sign they were going to help us so we left.
There really was no service anywhere, no bellman to help with bags for the 1/2 mile trek to the room. No one to help even find a cart (we found the cart ourselves both to and from the room).
The resort is sprawling, with different levels that do not connect. It is very confusing to navigate, since there are very few signs indicating where to go. And there is not anyone who will help or direct you.
The room was stained and dingy. I expect that in a cheap roadside motel, but not in a place that calls itself a resort, and you have to drive miles of winding road off the highway to get to.
The woman at the front desk was pleasant and checked us in promptly. That's the best thing I can say.
We would have been much better served driving further down the highway and finding a Motel 6, which are generally friendly, helpful, clean and economical.
