“Great choice for Waldport lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

This location has had a few Chinese restaurants over the years and each one has been an improvment. The food here is fresh, tasty and inexpensive. I can't believe the lunch that you get for $4.95. We tried a chow mein and a lo mein dish and they were both good. The crabpuffs are the best that I've had. Don't expect a fancy place as it is a little worn on the inside so if that bothers you, get take away.

“It is called The CHINA RESTAURANT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

We went there today, and this small Mom and Pop Chinese Restaurant in the small town of Waldport (17 miles south of Newport, OR.)Two older Chinese ( Grandma and Grandpa) who can hardly speak English prepare some wonderful Chinese dishes. It sure as heck is not Panda Express. I ordered the #5 Combination Dinner with was Pork Fried Rice, BBQ Pork; SPICY Kung Pao Chicken and Almond Fried Chicken. A large meal for $9.50. My wife had the #3. Port Chow Mein; Egg Foo Young; Sweet and Sour Chicken and Pork Fried Rice for $8.50. They have a wonderful appetizers, but we think the best one are the Crab Puffs (10 each)for $6.25. It is not long on atmosphere, but they sure have good food. You can order it to go

“Fresh and appetizing ingrediens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

To experience the best that this restaurant offers, order from the regular dinner menu, even at lunchtime. Our go-to favorite is Chicken Vegetables Chow Yuk. We ask that the dish have no canned vegetables (corn, bamboo shoots or water chestnuts,) and we have been delighted with each beautifully-chopped assortment of very fresh and appetizing in-season ones. The portions, by the way, are huge, and we have found that the leftovers heat up well for later meals.

A new waitress has great plans for advertising the restaurant and working on its eye appeal. When she needs to communicate the details of a special order to the Chinese-speaking cooks (“Grandma” and “Grandpa”), she phones someone to translate the instructions to them. When I asked whether the restaurant might have milk for my tea, I could hear the waitress back in the kitchen trying to communicate the idea of a cow and milk. What a great adventure eating there is!

Unlike in a lot of other small-town restaurants on the Oregon coast, there are separate men’s and women’s restrooms.

“Grandma” and “Grandpa” cook seven days a week, have happily customized our orders, and deserve every success in building this business. The new waitress said that a lot of locals don’t realize that the restaurant has been under new management, and she plans to help get out flyers to spread the word. If you like Chinese food and are in the area, give it a try!
