“Did not meet our expectations”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2008

We arrived late at night, stayed two nights, and left early in the morning so we never met the innkeepers although they were quite pleasant on the phone. We stayed in the Atrium. The only thing good about it was the TV with cable and we slept good on the bed. However, there was much more that was just unacceptable. The smell of the room was musty and old smelling. The furniture was old and worn out. The old trunk had the linens in it and it smelled horrible inside. The floor was concrete and cracked and cold. The worst part was the centipedes in the bathroom and we even found one crawling by our bed one night. The spiders in the bathroom spun a web across the door one night and my husband walked through it in the middle of the night. The floor was so uneven that the stove and refrigerator were at such an angle that it was hard to cook and hard to keep the refrigerator door open long enough to get something out of it. We had to park quite a ways away from the door and with the rain it made it hard to pack in our stuff without becoming soaked. There was not any soap provided in the bathroom or in the kitchen other than than the pump soap for handwashing. We had told them that 3 of us would be there and we paid extra for the extra person yet they only provided two towels. There were empty ice trays in the refrigerator so we had no ice. We could not get the shower to shut off completely and after working with it for some time, I called the office and they told us to set the lever at a special angle to get it to shut off. Seems like they should just fix it. The room was way over priced for the value. We will never stay here again. It was creepy, stinky, and feel way short of our expectations. Stay at the Wayfarer Resort in Vida on the river....it is much much better and the owners are attentive to every detail.

This lovely Bed & Breakfast has a lot of character, being the oldest one on the McKenzie River. For us, it was the perfect ending of a very special skiing holiday. We stayed at this B&B for a couple of days in February to relax. We travel the world in search for skiing opportunities, and boy, did we find them in Oregon! Worth the trip from Europe.
We stayed in the Atrium, which is a very light and spacy cabin with all the facilities one could ask for. It was warm and cozy, and the jacuzzi offered a great massage after our long trip. We slept like a log after that in the very comfortable bed. As we woke up the first morning there was a thick layer of fresh snow on the lawn and a bright blue sky. The sunlight filtering through the trees and the curtains into the cabin was just beautiful, very romantic. The rugs on the floor and the antique windows only added to that. Bert, the Innkeeper, was clearing the snow from the driveway, and we built a snowman with his two lovely children. It was a surprise to find out he was European too. We got along splendidly. He cooks a pretty good breakfast too, by the way: pancakes, omelets, various kinds of bread, homemade marmalade and apple juice.
We liked the kind of relaxed atmosphere we found at the McKenzie River Inn, in beautiful surroundings, and felt right at home. It’s a quiet place, the gardens have many different trees and plants, the lawn is very wide and the river runs by it majestically. For those who want to relax or get charged up again, this is the right place to visit. We hope to come back here one day during the summer.

We spent just one night in this B & B which we found extremely comfortable and welcoming. The Inn is situated right beside the river and is attended by very friendly Innkeepers with two delightful small cjildren.

We stayed in the the Atrium suite which has a jacuzzi and even had a hummimg bird outside our window in the morning. Breakfast in the morning was very good and plentiful

We are sure that the cabins are equally as comfortable as we enjoyed so would have no hesitation in recommending thos B & B.

My partner and I spent one night at the McKenzie River Inn on a road trip through Oregon. The Inn Keeping Staff was nice on the phone however they did ask for half of the room cost ($178 total) to hold the room. When we arrived at the Inn, we noted that the grounds were not well maintained and overgrown. The Atrium room had a nice view of the river, the furnishings were so-so - the bed was little more than a futon and we found it only semi-comfortable. There were good sheets and linens available, and the bathroom had been recently redone with a large jacuzzi tub (very nice) and a stand-up shower. The rest of the room had dated appliances and a cold concrete floor covered by some nice rugs. Breakfast was extra, which we felt was unreasonable for the cost of the room. We tried to go over to the main lodge at 7 AM to see if we could casually join them for breakfast but no one was awake. I feel the last straw was when I took our bottles up to the "recycling" area which was a trash can with attached small bins for recyclables. The trash was overflowing and insects were swarming around it. It total, we felt the McKenzie River Inn does not seem "ready for prime time" as a B&B and needs some extra work. The Innkeepers are nice people, but we were dissapointed by the service. If the room was more like $60-90 a night it would have been more of a value.
