“"TRAIL TO FALL IS CLOSED"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

Who wants to see that after making the trip along a dirt road and walking for 20 minutes! We were left speechless. No signs were posted along the main road indication that we could not even get close to the falls. What ARE they thinking?!!

“A little trip off the beaten path”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

This area is technically an Oregon state park. It is located in less than 2 miles from Hwy 101, but it is so different from many other civilized and groomed places. There is a little bit of adventure in going there. You tun off from Hwy 101 and get on a very poorly maintained road with more potholes than even and flat asphalt. The last 0.8 miles of the road is gravel, but it does not feel any worse than the beaten up to death asphalt section. The road is one lane, with occasional areas where two cars going into opposite directions can pass each other. At the end of the road, there is a tiny parking lot for about 15 cars. The settings are very neat - beautiful forest, creek with running water, a couple of picknick tables nect to the parking lot. No toilets, no facilities, no drinking water. Free entrance. There is a well maintained trail to the falls, 1/4 miles long. The last section of the trail is fairly steep in places and has loose gravel on it, so sturdy shoes are benefitial to have (as opposed to sandals and flip-flops). The trail ends at a gate with a sign "trail closed" because of several huge trees which fell on the trail a few yards ahead of the gate. You can see the waterfall very nicely from the gate. It is very high although not too powerful in August. It was a much nicer view than we expected. Somepeople decide to go past the gate to see if they can get closer to the falls, but once you climb over the fallen tree, you see that the trail ends there by the creek, some 10-15 yards past the gate. The view from the end of the trail is worse than from the gate, so I can see why Oregon park service decided not to invest resources into cleaning up the path beyond the gate. Very adventurous can keep on climbing through the jungle, but I do not think they can get get very far from the trail.

Overall, you feel a little like Indiana Jones in what officially is a state park. Nice nature and a little feeling of adventure. A worthy stop along the way!

Even though the road is gravel, it is easily passable with any vehicle. Signage is limited, but it is very hard to get lost - there is only one ambiguous crossing, and it has a sign. The road ends at the parking lot.

“Good but disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012 via mobile

Easy to get to , and easy walk. The trees are georgous drapped in moss. But your hike/walk comes to a short halt when the trail is closed half way up and you can bearly see the falls. They should post a notice at the trail head or parking lot that you can't even get close to the falls. Waste of time unless you like looking at messed over trees. At least I got several pictures of the trees!!!

“Beautiful Waterfall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2012

This is worth the short drive off the main road and the nice walk through the woods. The trees are spectacular with moss growing everywhere and the falls are a special treat/ Don't miss it if you are near Tillamook.
