Owner description: There’s no better place! The local elevation, pitch dark surrounding and crystal clear air make it perfect for star gazing. You won’t be lining up for one telescope. The Oregon Observatory is the largest astronomical viewing facility in the United States. Feast your eyes on far away galaxies. Recognize the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter. Witness a meteor shower. Get a glimpse of globular clusters, nebula and deep space binary stars.

“Interesting observatory”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

They had personnel on hand explaining the telescope views and displays of the universe. Not a large observatory, but nice for a small community.

“Great information and stargazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

We went to the Observatory recently and were able to look through the scopes to see Mars and Jupiter up close and personal. It was very cool! We also saw the moon closer than we've ever seen. There was a talk afterward about "life on Mars", which was informational and entertaining. This is a must-see for any Sunriver-goers.

“A Must Star Gaze!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

Wow, so glad we went to the Nature Center and found out about the Observatory. We happened to be visiting the Nature Center when the Observatory opened to view the Sun. That was truely amazing, as you can't just look at the Sun. They have 2 telescopes that have filters so you can get an up close look at the Sun. I went back that night for the Night show. Amazing. It was a perfectly clear, moon free night. I loved the presentation, funny and informative. I was amazed at the sight of Saturn in the early night sky, truely fantastic to see the rings. But, WOW, to get to see Andromeda the nearest Galaxy was the highlight of the night. The staff were great, informative and helpful in explaining what we were seeing in 11 different Telescopes. I feel so lucky to have happened upon this Observatory and plan to support this facility in the future!!

“Oregon observatory at Sunriver”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

This is definitely one stop you need to make. We started off with an amazing film shown by Glen that told about the planets and stars and future life stations on Mars. It was amazing. We then went to look thru the many telescopes at the stars that are light years away and they are absolutely beautiful. You can not see these with an ordinary telescope or the naked eye and see all the beauty the possess. Having telescopes available that are this powerful to the public is indeed a blessing and you should all take your children as well as yourselves to experience this. It's a trip of a lifetime. Support this amazing program!

“Wonderful star-gazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

Seeing billions of stars through more than 10 telescopes with knowledgeable guides to the galaxies was fantastic. It's seldom I'm anywhere clear enough and away from light pollution to see more than the moon and a few stars. The laser pointing constellation lessons were wonderful. I also happened to be there during a major meteor shower, which was an added bonus. Great for all ages, although it's a bit late for toddlers. Have seen the daytime solar viewing in the past, which is amazing.
