“Lava Rock Castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

Up Hwy 242 - The Old McKenize Pass - is a beautiful drive from Blue River to Sisters. This road is seasonal - usually June through first snow. This is also a spectacular road bike ride - the first week or two of the opening is for bikes only.

“A CCC classic in the middle of a lava field”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

During the 1930's the civilian conservation corps built this observatory. It is a 200 yard gentle hike from the road. From there, on a clear day, you can see dozens of mountain tops. I visited one August evening had witnessed a stunning meteor shower. WOW!

“Gotta go-but during the summer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

The Dee Wright Observatory is worth the drive-but you can't get there in the winter as the road is often closed due to snow. The views when you get there on a clear day are worth the side drive to get there, though. If you get the chance, take the drive.

“Highlight of our drive -- AMAZING!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

WOW! WOW! WOW! We left Sisters, Oregon to travel to the coast and came across this observatory during our amazing, scenic drive! I loved it! Took photos to share with family and friends and they were all amazed! It's a must see! The views are incredible and the rock-built observatory is so unique!!!! Go there! Travel out of your way! You will love it!
Glad I could be the first to review this! Bring warm clothes to get out of the car, though.
