“Amazing Country/Hunting Cottage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2009

Well, when we first drove by, we were not sure what to expect, but the instant Penny and Mike met us at the car to help us with our luggage and we saw the spacious interior of the Lodge with the Fishing/Hunting theme, we were delightedly won over.

We had a huge porch with wicker cushiony furniture overlooking the pasture and pond. The pond has inner tubes, a dock for fishing and a hammock for two under a tree to while away a lazy afternoon. The friendly cows came by every now and then to check us out ifrom their pasture near our bucolic haven.

The breakfasts were great; one was marionberry pancakes with Red-Neck Bacon from Montana (Hope (ha) that I got that right, Penny). The other was eggs bendedict. Frette bathrobes, a huge clawfoot tub and separate shower in the bathroom with soft towels were a treat. I have to admit, I was trying to figure out how to get the clawfoot tub home in my suitcase.

Mike and Penny exude hospitality, but not the overwhelming in-your-face-type... We had a great chat on the porch about their safari travels in Tanzania.

As we left, Penny gave us baskets and a plastic bag and after we pulled out we stopped and picked two baskets of blackberries to take home. I ate some today and remembered to write this review to highly recommend a stay here. My husband said," If this were Napa, this would be an over $300/night B and B." He is a laconic engineer, so that means a lot!

We needed a place to stay after attending a wedding at a local winery and we were blessed to find Hopewell B&B. Penny and Mike were so welcoming and charming. In fact, we couldn't wait to get back to the B&B after the wedding just so we could walk around the property with them. The fact that Mike and my husband were like soul mates made the experience even more fun. I wish we lived closer so they could work on their projects together.

The cottage was so comfortable. They thought of absolutely everything! We can't wait to come back with our kids.

Splendid! My wife and I were looking for a getaway for our anniversary. I found The Hopewell BB on the internet and although the description looked great, I was a little leery--we live fairly close and I never thought there was much in Hopewell. We decided to take a chance, and it was the best choice we could have ever made!! The accomodations are first class and you can't ask for better hosts than Mike and Penny. First class all the way. And although Hopewell itself is not a bustling town (not sure it is a town at all), it sits in the heart of Oregon's wine country. There must be at least 25 wineries all within 30 minutes of the BB.
We will be back again!

This charming cottage was delightful! My boyfriend and I came to Salem to visit some of the many Oregon wineries and wanted a comfortable place to stay where we could enjoy wine and the countryside. Although skeptical at first, Hopewell B&B actually surpassed our expectations. They had just about everything we could ask for - nice room w/ full kitchen and appliances, great private deck w/ gorgeous views, a BBQ and a hot tub! Then to top it all off, we had 3 wonderful home cooked breakfasts on our deck each morning. It was really nice. We were very sad to leave but now we have the great memory of our countryside cottage. If you ever think you might want to go to Oregon or even just a weekend away, I highly recommend you stay here.

Situated in the middle of the Willamette Valley Hopewell B&B provides an excellent local for visiting your student at Willamette University in Salem or as a comfortable base for tasting Oregon Pinot Noir.

The room is spacious and the bed so comfortable you may not want to get up - except the breakfast is so wonderful - prepared with fresh and home made ingredients delivered right to your room. You can relax on the porch with a cup of coffee and watch birds at the many feeders around the grounds before heading out for the day.

Penny and Mike go the extra mile to make your visit special and memorable.
PS Bring your swim suit for a dive into the pond or a soak in the hot tube.

If you want to get away from the city, relax, see some sights, and be spoiled, why would you stay anywhere else? This B&B is better than a five-star hotel. Mike and Penny are charming and gracious hosts who are always there if you need them. If not, you have the quiet privacy to enjoy their lovely property. Their cottages have old style charm with modern amenities, and they've thought of everything you might need. The location is the perfect jumping off point to go check out wineries. Or stay at home and lounge around, do some bird watching, swing in a hammock, swim in their pond, soak in the hot tub, watch a movie (a very nice selection in each cottage). Start off your day with a gourmet breakfast and get ready for a wonderful experience.
