“The best place in town!”

We live in Salem and wanted a night away. We booked a jacuzzi suite on short notice and headed downtown for the night. The room was very big, the tub was in the main room, not in the bathroom. It was large enough for two, great jets, lots of hot water, etc. A nice light on a dimmer above the tub. Great king size bed with upgraded linens, not the scratchy ones. the room got nice and dark and we were pleased. The hall noise is a bit loud, obviously depending on who is in the hall, but about the time the bars closed a group of women were coming in and a bit noisy. Bentley's the restaurant and bar downstairs is good. It's definitely the best show in town and the prices are high for Salem, but it's also a cut above.

My husband and I stayed here last weekend. Check-in was great - free chocolate cookies a nice touch at the front desk. My complaint here was that the hotel's parking garage sign said "FULL" and then after we found an alternative we were told the "FULL" sign is always displayed to deter non-hotel-guests from using the garage. Strange - wish we knew that one earlier!

Rooms are very comfortable and tastefully decorated. Bathroom lighting is very oddly placed and dull, however. Hard to put contacts in and get eye makeup on!

Downtown Salem is not very glitzy - sort of on the trashy side actually - but the hotel and the adjacent convention center seem to be part of some sort of revitalization project.

All in all, nice lobby, rooms, and restaurant - very upscale for Salem. If you have to be downtown for business or a convention, this is the place to stay.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel a few months ago and have just rebooked it for next month. It is so nice to be treated so well and to be close to everything while we are staying in Salem. The new restaurant Bentelys is a nice place to sit and have a glass of wine. Parking was free and directly below the hotel. This is our new Salem hotel.

This hotel is beautiful, the rooms are great. The only problems we had were: street traffic noise, liberty street is a busy one way, so if your room is on the street side, it's noisy. Also, the air conditioner fan doesn't have a setting to stay on all the time, so, if you're like us and you like white noise while you are sleeping, it's annoying that it keeps kicking on and off. Other than that, we had a great stay.

“Billing Nightmare, Feeble Staff, Good Location”

For Salem, this is pretty nice hotel. There is plenty of underground parking, the rooms are spacious and nice. It is located within a block's walk of shops, restuarants, and bars.

We booked this hotel for a wedding in April, and had no problems with our actual stay. The problems started when I saw that I had been charged twice - once on my credit card with which I reserved the room, and once on my debit card with which I paid for the room upon check out. When calling to sort it out, the hotel had mis-filed the record of my stay under a grossly misspelled version of my name, and the first few calls they were unable to find any record of it at all. When I finally established with them that I had stayed there, they could not/would not refund my double charge because it had been done with two different cards. After about 6 phone conversations, the voicemails I left for the manager went unreturned.

I eventually had to take the matter to my bank, which, to me, seems like a completely unprofessional way for a major hotel to resolve (and by resolve I mean pass the buck) a billing problem. Throughout the entire process I was polite, diligent, and understanding - perhaps I should have kicked and screamed.

If you stay here, keep in mind the staff may not be careful with billing or other bookkeeping matters, so check and double check your reciept and the charges made to your room. Use just one credit card for all charges since they clearly aren't sophisticated enough to handle more than one per guest.
