“Must-see for visitors to Salem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

The Capitol architecture is understated, with grand historic murals and sculpture. Peek into the House of Rep. & Senate rooms, visit the Governor's public office, and view art exhibits often displayed in the lobby. Stroll through beautiful parkland surrounding the capitol.

“No-Nonsense Capitol”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Did a self-guiding tour. Got there just in time, 4 pm on Friday, to tour the building. It is closed Sat and Sun. Info booth very informative. Pay at the meter out front of capitol. Gift shop on site. Grounds outside are very nice. Garden of flags, Liberty Bell and statues.

“Beautiful Grounds. Great place for a walk/jog!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

There are fountains for the kids in the hot summer. But there is a gorgeous green 'mall' right in front of the capital. Nice place for a picnic.

“Awesome view from the top”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

We recently went to Portland and thought it would be nice to see the state capitol building in Salem. The tour staff were very friendly and took us up to the top of the dome which had a great view of the city and the surrounding mountains. Another guide gave a half hour history tour on the capitol building itself and took us around to each one of the chambers. There is a small but nice gift shop in the building. If you take both tours, the total time is about one hour. The best thing about these are that they are free to the public and you just need to feed the meters outside for parking.

“View from the top”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

Took my class of 4th graders to the Capital for a tour. They were very interested in the building and the chambers. Most fun for them of course, was climbing the spiral staircase all the way to the top, where the "Gold Pioneer" resides. It was a beautiful view from up there and the kids were able to get an up-close look at the famous man.
